US Stock Futures Point To A Rebound After A Shocking Fall On Friday

Share:

After last week being marred by sell-offs, US stock futures today pointed to a rebound. While futures at the S&P 500 moved up 11.3 points to 1102.30, those at Dow Jones gained 91 points to 10242. Meanwhile, NASDAQ 100 futures climbed 12.5 points to 1810.

This week is lined with several key political, economic and corporate events, including a Fed interest rate decision and President Obama's State of the Union address. Stocks that will remain on focus today will include Halliburton Co (NYSE: HAL) and Apple Inc (NASDAQ: AAPL), both of which are to post results today.

European stocks were down only slightly in the morning, with investors taking a breather from last week’s sharp sell off. The plan by the White House to limit risk taking by financial institutions had made investors jittery in the market last week. Meanwhile, Japan's Nikkei average hit a four-week low, with exporters such as Toyota Motor Corp (NYSE: TM) among the biggest losers. The fall in the Asian markets was mostly due to the aftereffects of the shock felt by the Wall Street on Friday.
