U.S. stocks were lower, with the Nasdaq Composite falling around 100 points on Monday.

Shares of Pactiv Evergreen Inc. (NASDAQ:PTVE) rose sharply during Monday's session after the company announced it will merge with Novolex in which Pactiv shareholders will receive $18.00 per share in cash.

Pactiv Evergreen shares jumped 18.8% to $17.45 on Monday.
