Elon Musk Doesn't Know How His Current iPhone Is Better Than Prior Versions — Netizens Compare It With Tesla Upgrades

On Thursday, Elon Musk admitted his uncertainty about discerning the distinction between his current smartphone by Apple Inc. AAPL and previous iPhone versions — sparking online comparisons with Android devices to Tesla Inc.'s TSLA product lineup.

What Happened: In response to a user on Twitter, now rebranded as X, saying "Apple will literally ship the same iPhone year after year and people will still lose their minds.” the tech billionaire said he isn't "entirely clear" how his current iPhone and the prior versions are different. "Camera is 10% better?”

Musk's comment set off a flurry of discussions in the comment section. Many users took this as an opportunity to highlight the incremental changes in iPhones over the years, drawing parallels to the evolution of Tesla’s electric vehicles.

One group of users mocked Apple for introducing features like the USB-C Type charger, which Android phones — devices that run on an operating system developed by Alphabet Inc.'s GOOG GOOGL Google — had adopted long ago.

One user posted, “Haven't you heard? It's the next-generation USB C that others have had for years.”

Some playfully speculated that Musk might be hinting at a Tesla phone, saying, “Tell me you are making a Tesla phone without telling me you are making a Tesla phone.”

Others used this moment to compare the iPhone’s iterative updates to Tesla’s approach with its Model 3, emphasizing that to the layperson, both products might appear to have minor changes from year to year.

Why It's Important: The iPhone 15 launch is all set for Sept. 12 with some major upgrades like thinner bezels, camera upgrades, a new Action Button, and other design and hardware improvements.

In addition, the USB Type-C port is all set to make its debut on the iPhone – all four iPhone 15 models are expected to use the universal Type-C port in compliance with new European Union regulations.
