Chile's Soquimich In Play Ahead Of Earnings Report

Sociedad Quimica y Minera de Chile SA (NYSE: SQM), the world’s largest lithium producer, is a stock that doesn't get a lot of attention, but with the company reporting earnings after the close on Tuesday, it might be worth putting this sleepy Chilean company on your radar.

Soquimich, as the company is known, is more than just a lithium company. The company is also involved in the volatile potash fertilizer business and Soquimich is hoping to double its potash sales in 2010.

The Street could be bracing for a good earnings report from Soquimich. Last Monday, options volume totaled 3,102 contracts in the January 40 calls, compared with existing open interest of 1,653. On Monday October 26, more than 1,000 April 40 calls changed hands compared to open interest of 305 contracts.
