Beware Of New 52 Week Highs During Options Expiration Week

Since mid January the major stock indexes have topped out in the short term and a pullback has been underway. The Dow Jones Industrial Average hit a high at 10,729 on January 19th, 2010 and made a short term low on February 5th, 2010 at 9,835. During that time many commodity and financial stocks lead the declined sharply.

Quicksilver (ZQK) Shares Rise Nearly 30%

Quicksilver (ZQK) shares hit a 52 week high today after the company reported solid results for the first quarter. Quicksilver ended the day at $4.04. The stock was the biggest percentage gainer on the NYSE rising 29.90%.

Potash (POT) Showing Strong Technical Strength Into Friday's Close

Potash Corp. of Saskatchewan (NYSE: POT) is showing continued strength into Friday's close. As widely reported after the bell on Thursday, the company hiked its first quarter earnings to a range of $1.30 and $1.50 a share, a sharp rise from its previous outlook of 70 cents to $1 a share.

Pall Corp. (NYSE: PLL) fell 5.1% to $38.88 for the biggest decline in the S&P 500 by Friday afternoon. The producer of filters for drugmakers and refineries Pall Corp (PLL) forecast its 2010 earnings, excluding some items, at $2.05 a share in a best case scenario.
