Northrop Wins Army Contract - Analyst Blog

Share:

Northrop Grumman Corp. (NOC) has won a $577 million U.S. Army contract to develop the Integrated Air and Missile Defense Battle Command System (IBCS). The five-year contract is a cost-plus-fixed-fee contract for system design and development.

IBCS is an integrated air and missile-defense command and control capability. Enabled by a battlefield fire control network, the system will provide the technology, tools and information needed to make better decisions on the battlefield. Northrop Grumman will develop the system in collaboration with fellow defense companies, which includes Boeing Co. (BA), Lockheed Martin Corp. (LMT) and Harris Corp. (HRS).

Northrop Grumman’s Integrated Air and Missile Defense Project Office in Huntsville, Alabama, will manage the IBCS program.  Northrop Grumman will also locate its IBCS program in Huntsville. IBCS is expected to be operational by 2014. Systems that would be integrated via IBCS include Patriot, Surface-Launched Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missile (SLAMRAAM), Joint Land Attack Cruise Missile Defense Elevated Netted Sensor (JLENS), and Improved Sentinel radar.

Northrop Grumman’s success in the competitive defense industry depends upon its ability to develop and market its defense-related products and services to the U.S. Government, as well as its ability to provide people, technologies, facilities, equipment and financial capacity needed to deliver those products and services at maximum efficiency.

Based in Los Angeles, California, Northrop Grumman provides products, services and solutions in information and services, aerospace, electronics and shipbuilding to the military, government and commercial customers of United States and beyond. The company is the largest IT service provider to the federal government. We maintain our Neutral recommendation on the shares.
