As the 2024 presidential race draws nearer, a new NBC News poll reveals voters’ rising anxieties concerning a potential rematch between President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump.
The poll underlined Trump’s growing lead in the Republican presidential nominating contest, leading by over 40 points against his closest contender. Despite his overall unpopularity among the general electorate, Trump’s leadership is favored by 59% of national Republican primary voters.
Additional issues for Biden, beyond his age, were exposed including his handling of the economy, his son’s business affairs, and declining election interest among crucial Democratic voters. However, the poll showed Biden and Trump deadlocked in a speculative rematch, more than a year ahead of the general election.
Despite Trump’s challenges, such as his unpopularity and his energizing effect on political opposition, his support among Republican primary voters has risen. Conversely, Biden faces a high disapproval rate with 56% of registered voters disapproving of his presidency, the highest disapproval rating of his term so far.
With the 2024 elections approaching, the poll suggested that both Trump and Biden have obstacles to conquer. A high level of interest in the elections among voters indicates a competitive race ahead.
Furthermore, a subsequent Benzinga article from September 2023 highlighted that Biden has been the consensus nominee for the Democratic Party in the 2024 election, despite concerns over his age.
Overall, these findings suggest that the public’s concerns about Biden and Trump could significantly sway the 2024 presidential race.
