Earnings And Eco Data To Watch This Week

All eyes are on earnings and economic data here in the U.S. this week. Let’s begin with a few companies reporting quarterly results that could set the tone for the upcoming earnings season. First, this morning we have Morgan Stanley MS and Goldman Sachs GS before the bell, and on the close we have United Airlines UAL. Tomorrow, J.B. Hunt JBHT, Alcoa AA, and Discover DFS will open their books. Later in the week, a handful of closely-watched names like Procter & Gamble PG, Fastenal FAST, and Netflix NFLX. We end the week with a flurry of regional banks.

In terms of economic data this week, we have the NY Manufacturing Data this morning. PPI, Beige Book, Housing Market Index, Industrial Production, and Retail Sales report tomorrow. Thursday is another busy day with the Jobless Claims, more housing figures, and the EIA inventory levels. Friday, Existing Home Sales cap off the week. We also have a handful of Fed speakers throughout the week, and the Bank of Japan decision tomorrow will be closely watched.

Lastly, a few markets that stood out: this morning, we have crude oil back above $80 and copper topping $4. Keep an eye on gold this week, which has been firm and holding above $1,900 as the U.S. Dollar has taken a hit back to 102. Bitcoin is back to 21,600 to begin the week as rates have come off and an overall risk-on tone has started to re-emerge with expectations the Fed will only raise rates by 25bps at the upcoming February meeting.
