Will Ford Or GM Stock Grow More By 2022?

Every week, Benzinga conducts a sentiment survey to find out what traders are most excited about, interested in or thinking about as they manage and build their personal portfolios.

We surveyed a group of over 500 readers on whether shares of Ford Motor Company F or General Motors Company GM would grow the most by 2022.

Ford Vs. GM Stock

Ford designs, manufactures, markets, and services a range of cars, trucks, sport utility vehicles, electric vehicles and Lincoln luxury vehicles worldwide. The company has about 14% market share in the United States and about 7% share in Europe.

Ford’s mobility segment designs and builds mobility services; and provides self-driving systems development and vehicle integration, autonomous vehicle research and engineering, and autonomous vehicle transportation-as-a-service network development services.

General Motors has seven brands and operates under four segments in 2021: GM North America, GM International, Cruise and GM Financial. The United States now has four brands: Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac.

The company remains the market leader in the U.S. with roughly 17% share in 2020.

The company also sells trucks, crossovers, and electric cars to dealers for consumer retail sales, as well as to fleet customers, including daily rental car companies, commercial fleet customers, leasing companies and governments.

EV Spotlight

Electric vehicle manufacturers and EV service companies have been in the spotlight for 2020. With traditional auto manufacturers like Ford and GM coming out with compelling electric options, consumers have more choices than ever.

The growing demand for EVs isn't surprising. Thanks to the rise in popularity of Tesla TSLA and Nio NIO and as EVs come more into the mainstream, people are seeing many benefits of owning an EV including cost savings during ownership and much lower maintenance needs.

Readers who contributed to our study primarily expressed their thoughts as to whether GM or Ford will become the more capable, successful American EV maker by the end of 2022.

Although sentiment was incredibly close, ultimately 52% of readers believe that shares of General Motors will grow more, primarily off expectations its EV and Cruise self-driving unit that tests and develops autonomous car technologies will outperform Ford in the near term.

This survey was conducted by Benzinga in December 2020 and included the responses of a diverse population of adults 18 or older.

Opting into the survey was completely voluntary, with no incentives offered to potential respondents. The study reflects results from over 500 adults.
