California-based EV startup Rivian Automotive (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/RIVN#NASDAQ">RIVN</a>) sold more electric vans last year in the U.S. than Dearborn-based legacy automaker Ford Motor Co (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/F#NYSE">F</a>), according to recent data from automotive research firm Kelley Blue Book.
What Happened: As per the data, Rivian sold 13,560 <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/24/10/41266079/amazon-to-deploy-ai-powered-package-identifying-tech-on-1000-rivian-delivery-vans-for-faster-deliver">electric delivery vans</a> in 2024, marking a growth of 68% from the corresponding period of 2023. 
Ford also witnessed a significant jump in its <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/24/08/40525705/fords-e-transit-van-could-be-its-golden-goose-until-new-evs-start-rolling-out-in-2026">E-Transit electric van sales</a> in the period but not enough to overtake Rivian. The automaker sold 12,610 units of the E-Transit electric van in 2024, as compared to just 7,672 units in 2023. 
Rivian and Ford have a similar electric vehicle lineup in terms of the vehicle types they offer. They have just three EV offerings each in the U.S.- an SUV, a pickup, and a van. 
Why It Matters: While Rivian&#8217;s current lineup includes the R1S SUV, the R1T truck, and the Rivian delivery vans, Ford offers the Mustang Mach-E SUV, the F-150 Lightning pickup, and the E-Transit van. 
However, when you consider cumulative sales in the U.S., Ford outrun Rivian in 2024 with 97,865 EVs sold as compared to Rivian&#8217;s 51,579 sales. 
This is likely because of the higher price point of Rivian&#8217;s offerings as compared to Ford&#8217;s. While <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/01/42801670/mustang-mach-e-spurs-fords-ev-sales-in-q4-after-it-delays-new-vehicle-launch">Ford&#8217;s Mustang Mach-E</a> starts at $39,995 for the base variant, the Rivian R1S SUV starts at $75,900.
Rivian shares are up 2.9% in premarket trading on Tuesday. The stock closed down 2.6% on Monday at $13.49 and is up by 1% year-to-date, according to <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/pro/">data from Benzinga Pro</a>. 
Ford shares, meanwhile, closed up 0.6% at $9.71 on Monday. The stock is down by 2% year-to-date.

The rise of Tesla Inc&#8216;s (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TSLA#NASDAQ">TSLA</a>) Cybertruck sales in the U.S. last year weighed heavily upon the company&#8217;s other luxury offerings including the Model S sedan and the Model X SUV, according to recent data from automotive research firm Kelley Blue Book.
What Happened: Tesla sold 12,991 Cybertrucks in the fourth quarter of 2024 in the U.S. and 38,965 in the whole year, the data showed. Tesla started delivering the Cybertruck in late November 2023, making 2024 the first whole year of the vehicle&#8217;s deliveries. 
However, while the company scaled Cybertruck deliveries, its Model S and X sales took a major hit. While Model S sales dropped 31% to 12,426 units last year, Model X sales dropped 20% to 19,855 units. 
In fact, the company cumulatively sold just 32,281 Model S and X, or fewer units than the Cybertruck. 
Tesla&#8217;s overall deliveries in the U.S. dropped by 5.6% year-on-year in 2024 to 633,762 units, spurring its global delivery decline. Sales declined across the company&#8217;s lineup of Model 3, X, Y, and S, as per the data. 
Tesla does not provide vehicle delivery data by geography, leaving us to rely on third parties for the purpose. 
Why It Matters: Despite the year-on-year drop in overall sales, Tesla&#8217;s Model Y SUV retained its position as the best-selling EV in the U.S., followed by the Model 3 sedan. Ford&#8217;s Mustang Mach-E took third place in the best-selling EVs listicle, followed by the Hyundai Ioniq 5 in fourth place.
Tesla reported its&nbsp;<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/trading-ideas/movers/25/01/42766117/tesla-stock-tumbles-on-q4-deliveries-whats-going-on" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">first fall in global annual vehicle deliveries</a> earlier this month. The company delivered 1,789,226 vehicles in 2024, 1.1% less than the 1,808,581 deliveries reported for 2023.
However, the company continues to be the best-selling EV brand in the U.S. by a huge margin, followed by Ford who sold just 97,865 EVs last year.
Price Action: Tesla stock is up 2.5% in pre-market trading on Tuesday after <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/equities/25/01/42965139/tesla-soars-over-2-after-hours-on-morgan-stanleys-430-target-upgrade-and-breakthrough-fsd-advancements-says-gary-black">Morgan Stanley hiked its price target</a> from $400 to $430 on Monday while maintaining an &#8220;overweight&#8221; rating.
Tesla has a consensus price target of $294.23 based on the ratings of 34 analysts tracked by Benzinga and a consensus &#8220;neutral&#8221; rating. 
The stock closed up 2.2% at $403.31 on Monday and is up by about 3.4% year-to-date, according to <a href="https://pro.benzinga.com/dashboard">data from Benzinga Pro</a>.

Cybertruck Success Comes At A Cost: Tesla Sells Nearly 39,000 Units In 2024, But Luxury Model S And X Sales Take A Hit In US, Data Shows

The <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/mark-zuckerberg">shareholders</a> of Mark Zuckerberg&#8217;s Meta Platforms Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/META#NASDAQ">META</a>) have reportedly requested its Board of Directors to conduct an assessment and determine if adding Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) to the company&#8217;s treasury will be in the best interest of the company.
What Happened: This request for assessment follows a proposal submitted by the company&#8217;s shareholder Ethan Peck.
Peck is a deputy director for the National Center for Public Policy Research's &#8216;Free Enterprise Project&#8217;, which is the conservative movement's only full-service shareholder activism and education program. The organization has also submitted similar proposals to Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MSFT#NASDAQ">MSFT</a>) and Amazon.com Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AMZN#NASDAQ">AMZN</a>) as well.
Meta did not immediately respond to <a href="http://pro.benzinga.com">Benzinga&#8217;s</a> request for comment.

Meta, the owner of WhatsApp and Instagram, reported in its third-quarter filing that it holds $72 billion in cash, cash equivalents, and marketable securities, including U.S. Treasuries and corporate bonds.
The proposal suggests that some part of this money should be deployed in the &#8220;inflation-resistant store of value&#8221; Bitcoin. It also quotes BlackRock, which is the second-largest institutional investor in Meta, saying that &#8220;a 2% Bitcoin allocation is reasonable&#8221;. 
What Does It Mean For Investors: If Meta diversifies its holdings into Bitcoin, it could help the company earn higher profitability if the cryptocurrency&#8217;s price appreciates. Thus, it boosts the earnings from holding the asset, which will be beneficial for investors and shareholders. The proposal also highlighted that the largest holder of Bitcoin MicroStrategy Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MSTR#NASDAQ">MSTR</a>) has outperformed Meta by 2191% over the last five years

Jim Cramer Says 'One-Two Punch' From Government And Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg Led To Nasdaq's Monday Decline: '...May Have Been Too Much For Everyone'

WeRide Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/WRD#NASDAQ">WRD</a>), a global leader in autonomous driving technology, is the technology provider for an innovative new autonomous driving pilot project in Switzerland. This project is funded by the Canton of Zurich and Swiss national railway Schweizerische Bundesbahnen (SBB) and managed by the Swiss Transit Lab (STL), with WeRide providing products and operational support. The decision demonstrates WeRide's leading L4 autonomous driving technology and operational experience has again been recognized by the international market.
During the test phase, two autonomous cars with WeRide technology will be in service. When operations start, which is expected in the second quarter, up to four cars will be deployed. Fully unmanned mode will operate for up to five years. In 2026, the fleet is expected to expand with eight additional autonomous vehicles, with further expansion in future.
The first automated vehicles will operate in Switzerland's Furttal Region. Residents will be able to book the autonomous vehicles by an app supplied by ioki.

WeRide Brings Autonomous Driving to Switzerland, Launching Pilot Backed by Zurich and Swiss Railways

German automaker Audi delivered around 1.7 million vehicles worldwide last year, marking a drop of about 12%, allowing American EV giant Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TSLA#NASDAQ">TSLA</a>) to overtake it in global vehicle sales.
What Happened: Audi pinned the decline in overall deliveries to challenging economic conditions, a competitive market, and limited availability of parts.
Though the company launched new models, including all battery electric vehicles, in 2024, they are only gradually having an impact on global sales, the automaker said. The company witnessed a 21% decline in Germany, a 13% drop in North America, and an 11% drop in China.
Audi EV Sales: Out of its overall deliveries, over 164,000 were fully electric models, marking a decline of 8% as compared to 2023, the company said.
&#8220;Challenging economic conditions and the in transparency in terms of government incentive structures are currently causing a certain reluctance to buy affecting the entire industry, especially when it comes to fully electric vehicles," Marco Schubert, Board Member for Sales and Marketing, said in a statement.
Why It Matters: While a fall in EV sales managed to drag Audi&#8217;s overall deliveries lower, Tesla overtook it in global vehicle deliveries by delivering about 1.79 million vehicles in 2024. 
Tesla&#8217;s deliveries fell by about 1.1% in 2024 as compared to the 1,808,581 deliveries reported for 2023, marking its&nbsp;<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/trading-ideas/movers/25/01/42766117/tesla-stock-tumbles-on-q4-deliveries-whats-going-on" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">first fall in annual vehicle deliveries</a>. However, the company still managed to overtake its rival and legacy brand Audi. 
Tesla shared its achievement over Audi in a post on social media platform X and wrote, &#8220;Thank you to our owners around the world – you rock!&#8221;

Audi's Deliveries Drop 12% In 2024: Tesla Takes The Lead In Global Sales

Howard Hughes Holdings Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/HHH#NYSE">HHH</a>) experienced an 11.01% increase in its stock price on Monday during pre-market hours, as per <a href="https://pro.benzinga.com">Benzinga Pro</a>, after Bill Ackman&#8216;s Pershing Square declared that it is set to augment its stake in Howard Hughes Holdings by $1 billion.
The offer was made on Monday at $85 per share, according to Reuters. The proposal will allow the shareholders of Texas-based real estate developer, a long-standing investment for Pershing Square, to choose between receiving the full payment in cash or opting to &#8220;roll over&#8221; their shares into the post-merger entity, as stated in a letter from Pershing.

"While we are pleased with the substantial business progress Howard Hughes Holdings has made over the more than 14 years since it went public, we, like other long-term shareholders and this board, have been displeased with the Company's stock price performance," wrote Ackman in a letter.
Howard Hughes Holdings, with a market capitalization of $3.6 billion, has not yet provided a comment on the offer, Reuters noted. The move by Ackman&#8217;s firm reflects its continued interest and investment in the real estate developer, which has been a part of its portfolio for an extended period.
