Comedian Jimmy Kimmel took aim at Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene‘s (R-Ga.) recent plea for an investigation of the House select committee that scrutinized the Jan. 6 Capitol riots.
What Happened: Kimmel on his Tuesday show broadcasted clips of Greene advocating for a new House select committee to delve into the original one which looked into the Capitol riots instigated by ex-President Donald Trump.
"She says very stupid things on a daily basis but her new idea may be her dumbest yet."
Kimmel, with a note of sarcasm, labeled "not a bright woman" Greene’s proposition as “brilliant.”
The call for a renewed investigation from Greene comes on the heels of House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.), disclosing approximately 44,000 hours of recordings and footage from the riots. Greene contended that the disclosure was inadequate and called for additional “investigations and accountability.”

Why It Matters: The initial committee, led by Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.), and former Republican congresswoman Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.), brought forth criminal referrals in December 2022, hinting at a DOJ investigation into Trump for inciting an insurrection, among other accusations.
Greene’s demand mirrors that of Sen. Mike Lee, (R-Utah), who recently urged for an investigation into the Jan. 6 select committee for purported evidence suppression and selective usage of footage.
More than 1,100 people have been charged in relation to the riots, and some Republican lawmakers, like Greene and Lee, allege the initial investigation was biased or incomplete.
