Netflix, Apple, Tesla Amongst The Hottest Companies For Job Seekers As Big Tech Emerges Top Favorite, Says Survey

What Happened: Tech companies are in hot demand amongst prospective job seekers – seven out of the top ten companies are all from the tech sector, according to a survey by Resume.io.

Netflix, despite a $18 billion dip in share value, led the race with an average of 84.87 job applications per listing per day. Amazon and Microsoft trailed closely with 73.25 and 57.90 daily applications, respectively.

What is incredible is that despite the tech sector being extremely shaky when it comes to jobs, it remains the top favorite of job seekers by a vast margin.

For instance, over 1,000 tech companies laid off over 164,000 employees in 2022 alone. Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ:MSFT) and Meta Platforms Inc. (NASDAQ:META) laid off over 10,000 employees each but still remain amongst the top destinations for employment.

Oracle Corp. (NYSE:ORCL) and Amazon.com Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) are the two other favorites from the tech sector in the top ten.

The study serves as a reminder to job seekers that a high number of applications doesn’t equate to quality, urging them to focus on roles that align with their skill sets and passions.

Why It Matters: The fierce competition for jobs at these companies can be attributed to their reputation and growth prospects. The survey shows how tech firms like Apple, Microsoft, and Amazon consistently attract a large number of applicants.

For instance, Apple draws an average of 53.7 applications for each job every day.

However, the number of applicants is not the only measure of competition. Some companies like Intel reportedly struggle to fill key positions due to a shortage of skilled labor, making them less competitive despite being a major tech player.

While LinkedIn remains a popular route for job applications, it is not the only one. Therefore, these figures provide a snapshot of the competitive landscape, but they do not capture the entire picture.
