What Happened: As reported by The Hill, Trump expressed his approval for Johnson’s victory outside a New York courtroom on Wednesday. “I just want to congratulate Mike Johnson. He will be a great Speaker of the House, and we were very happy to have helped,” said Trump.

"I've known him for a long time. He's a tremendous leader and a tremendous man."

Trump also thanked his own supporters and those of Johnson, indicating his influence over the election results. Johnson’s rise to the Speaker’s position follows the ousting of Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) 22 days prior, which left the House without a leader.

Trump’s role in the voting process has fluctuated in recent weeks. Initially, he supported Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), who later withdrew his candidacy. His public disapproval of House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-Minn.) appeared to hinder Emmer’s chances of becoming Speaker.
