The iPhone 15 launch is all set for September 12, and Apple Inc. AAPL is taking another step towards its dream iPhone – one with no bezels and no camera cutouts. With the iPhone 15 shaping up to be the biggest upgrade in years, Apple is planning an in-person launch event at its campus, Apple Park in Cupertino, California.
When will the iPhone 15 launch? The iPhone 15 series is reportedly set to launch on September 12, with some major upgrades like thinner bezels, camera upgrades, a new Action Button, and other design and hardware improvements.

While previous reports said that US carriers had asked their employees not to take leaves in September for a "major smartphone launch", Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has now confirmed the iPhone 15 launch date, which is September 12. Apple tends to launch iPhones on Tuesdays or Wednesdays, which aligns with the general trend.
Previous reports suggest that Apple is also expected to hike the US iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max prices by $100. Gurman adds that outside of the US, all four models could see a price hike to varying degrees. Given that the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max are expected to feature some significant design and hardware upgrades, the $100 price hike might be justified.
iPhone 15 Expected Features
Thinner Bezels: Amongst the major iPhone 15 upgrades this year will be the thinner bezels – more specifically, the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max are expected to have 1.5mm borders around the display, significantly down from 2.2mm on the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max.
To achieve this, Apple is borrowing another leaf from the Apple Watch playbook – it is reportedly using a display technology called low-injection pressure overmolding, or LIPO.
Titanium Body: The iPhone 15 Pro models are also said to feature another major design change – a titanium body instead of a steel frame. Apple has borrowed this design change from the Apple Watch Ultra.
USB Type-C Port: The USB Type-C port is all set to make its debut on the iPhone – all four iPhone 15 models are expected to use the universal Type-C port in compliance with new European Union regulations.
According to reports, the ‘Pro' models are expected to support USB 4.0 technology, supporting data transfer speeds of up to 40Gbps. However, there is a catch: if you want these faster speeds, you must avoid this iPhone 15 model.
Periscope Camera: The top-tier iPhone 15 Pro Max is expected to receive a significant camera upgrade – Apple is expected to include a periscope camera in its flagship, significantly improving its zooming capabilities.
Action Button: The iPhone 15 series is expected to sport another borrowed feature from the Apple Watch Ultra – a programmable Action Button. It will replace the mute switch and allow users to program up to nine actions, including a flashlight toggle, low power mode, do not disturb mode, and more.
Dynamic Island: All four iPhone 15 models are expected to feature Dynamic Island, a feature that has been restricted to the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max.
Performance Boost: The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus are expected to be powered by the Apple A16 Bionic chipset, while the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are expected to feature a 3-nanometer A17 Bionic chipset.
A new report suggests that Apple could pack in an extra GPU core to give the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone Pro Max a performance boost. These two iPhone 15 models could also get 8GB RAM, up from 6GB on their iPhone 14 Pro siblings.
Stacked Battery Technology: Lastly, the iPhone 15 series is expected to be powered by up to 20% more dense batteries, helping them last longer than their predecessors. Apple is said to use stacked battery technology borrowed from electric vehicles, helping it pack in denser batteries without increasing the size.
The shift to the USB-C port is also expected to increase the charging speeds by up to 30% – from 27W to 35W.
Storage Bump: A recent report suggests that Apple could finally increase the baseline storage to 256GB, up from 128GB. That said, we suggest taking this with a grain of salt, given the track record of the source of the leak.
Color-Matched USB-C Cable: Apple could finally move on from the white charging cable and launch color-matched braided USB-C cables with the iPhone 15, according to Apple prototype device collector “Kosutami”.
