Cisco Launches Power-Efficient Networking Chips, Takes on Broadcom and Marvell in AI Arena

Cisco Systems, Inc CSCO on Tuesday launched networking chips for AI supercomputers that would compete with offerings from Broadcom Inc AVGO and Marvell Technology Inc MRVL.

Key cloud players include Amazon.Com, Inc AMZN Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Corp MSFT Microsoft Azure, and Alphabet Inc GOOG GOOGL Google Cloud, which rules the cloud computing market, according to Bofa Global Research.

Cisco is a major supplier of networking equipment, including ethernet switches, which connect devices like computers, laptops, routers, servers, and printers to a local area network.

It said the latest generation of its ethernet switches can connect up to 32,000 GPUs.

"G200 & G202 are going to be the most powerful networking chips in the market fueling AI/ML workloads enabling the most power-efficient network," Cisco fellow and formerly principal engineer Rakesh Chopra said.

Cisco said the chips could execute AI and machine learning tasks with 40% fewer switches and less lag while being more power efficient.

In April, Broadcom launched the Jericho3-AI chip that connects up to 32,000 GPU chips.

Price Action: CSCO shares traded lower by 0.19% at $51.45 premarket on the last check Wednesday.
