Google Rolls Out New Widgets That iPhone Users Can Add To Their Lock Screens

Alphabet Inc.'s GOOG GOOGL Google unveiled a set of new lock screen widgets that can be used on Apple Inc.’s AAPL iPhone 8 or newer versions.

What Happened: On Wednesday, Google officially rolled out its lock screen widgets for iOS 16. The widgets can provide users with intuitive information and shortcuts to some of Google's most popular apps.

iPhone users just need to make sure they are using the latest iOS version and updated Google apps.

With new lock screen widgets, users can separate work and play apps. For instance, the Gmail widget will automatically show new messages, while Map Search can provide links to nearby restaurants, gas stations, and more.

Similarly, the Google News Lock Screen widget can help users go through headlines quickly, while the shortcut to Google Lens will translate text into over 100 languages.

Additionally, YouTube and YouTube Music home screen widgets can assist users in browsing new videos or playing their favorite music.

Why It's Important: The new Google lock screen widgets can be used on iPhone 14 Pro or Pro Max as they have an always-on display. These widgets can make Google's apps more compelling regardless of the device. They might even provide an edge over Android phones that only show limited information till the device is unlocked, according to Engadget.
