Bracelin said Snowflake flagged Iceberg tables as one&nbsp;of the potential drags&nbsp;on the 2024 growth trajectory, which was lowered to a mid-point of 22% earlier this year.&nbsp;
The analyst noted that this was understandable, given that storage represents about 10% of revenue and a handful of large Internet customers plan to migrate more storage to an Iceberg open-source data lakehouse.&nbsp;
Iceberg table format has evolved from a niche engineering project that originated at Netflix in 2017 into a full-blown Apache Iceberg open-source project that has quickly become one of the de facto table format standards for large-scale data operations adopted by&nbsp;Amazon.Com Inc&nbsp;(NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AMZN#NASDAQ">AMZN</a>), Apple,&nbsp;Confluent,&nbsp;Inc&nbsp;(NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CFLT#NASDAQ">CFLT</a>), Snowflake, and&nbsp;Salesforce Inc&nbsp;(NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CRM#NYSE">CRM</a>), among others, he noted.&nbsp;
Iceberg tables continue the trend of disaggregating computing from storage over the last decade,&nbsp;which has enabled&nbsp;the shift to cloud architectures.
The analyst said that until Iceberg table formats become more broadly adopted within Global 2000 enterprises, the existential threat to SNOW from Icebergs might be overstated in the near future. Today, about 10% of SNOW&#8217;s revenue is attributed to storage, with an increasing portion tied to the compute engine, which remains highly differentiated. Bracelin projected first-quarter revenue and EPS of $785.3 million and $0.19.
KeyBanc analyst Eric Heath reiterated an Overweight rating on Snowflake. The analyst expects a solid upside to fiscal first-quarter product revenue following positive usage trends and commentary from consumption peers Confluent and Datadog, Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/DDOG#NASDAQ">DDOG</a>) and public cloud acceleration in the first quarter. 
Also, fiscal 2025 guidance appears more conservative, with management assuming similar usage trends to fiscal 2024.&nbsp;He&nbsp;expects management to remain prudent with fiscal 2025 guidance, with less visibility into the impact of Iceberg on storage and the potential&nbsp;fiscal&nbsp;second-half contribution from new products likely to GA around Snowflake Summit in June.&nbsp;
Investor sentiment has improved slightly since his launch in early April, and he expects further improvement heading into Snowflake Summit in June, with several new products scheduled to GA. The cadence of AI-related announcements has notably accelerated since Sridhar Ramaswamy&#8217;s appointment as CEO, a positive change, with products like Cortex and Snowpark Container Services expected to become GA soon.
Heath projected first-quarter revenue and EPS of $786.6 million and $0.17.

For the week ending May 11, unemployment benefit claims fell by 10,000 to 222,000, although this remains the third-highest level for the year. 
Industrial production was flat in April, missing expectations of a 0.1% increase, while manufacturing production dropped by 0.3% from the previous month, also falling short of market forecasts of a 0.1% growth.
Treasury yields hold broadly steady, while the U.S. dollar index (DXY) witnessed minor gains, up 0.1%. 
Chinese stocks continued their positive momentum, with the KraneShares CSI China Internet ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/KWEB#NYSE">KWEB</a>), tracking the nation&#8217;s tech stocks, up 1.8% and reaching its highest levels since mid-February 2023.
Notably, renowned &#8216;big short&#8217; investor Michael Burry added Baidu Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BIDU#NASDAQ">BIDU</a>) to his hedge fund&#8217;s holdings and increased his stakes in JD.com Inc. Energy And Commodities: Natural gas made headlines, with U.S. Henry Hub prices rising 4% to $2.375/MMBTu, up over 35% since the start of the month. The Energy Information Administration reported that U.S. utilities injected 70 billion cubic feet (bcf) of gas into storage during the week ending May 10, falling short of market expectations of a 76 bcf increase.

Spin-Off Stocks Surprise To Start Q2 - Reviewing Recent Market Newcomers

Spinoffs are an interesting investment opportunity. These are corporate transactions meant to separate at least two businesses from one another. Many times investors wake to find a new stock added to their portfolios. They don&rsquo;t know where it came from or even what it does.



Recently I found I was the proud owner of Solventum (NYSE:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/solv-stock-quote/">SOLV</a>). Although I knew 3M (NYSE:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/mmm-stock-quote/">MMM</a>) was spinning off its healthcare business, I hadn&rsquo;t realized the industrial conglomerate completed the transaction. While I&rsquo;ll be holding onto the stock, many investors in similar situations sell the spinoff. They were investing in the parent company and have no interest in this ancillary business.&nbsp;



Yet spinoffs can be lucrative stocks to buy and own. In his excellent book &ldquo;You Can Be a Stock Market Genius,&rdquo; author Joel Greenblatt says:




 &ldquo;There are plenty of reasons why a company might choose to unload or otherwise separate itself from the fortunes of the business to be spun off. There is only one reason to pay any attention when they do: you can make a pile of money investing in spin-offs.&rdquo;




A Penn State study backs up those assertions, finding that over the <a href="https://honors.libraries.psu.edu/files/final_submissions/1158">25-year period reviewed</a>, spinoff stocks handily beat their industry peers and the S&amp;P 500 by about 10 percentage points per year over the three years following the spinoff. The biggest gains happened in the second year of independence.



However, more recent data casts a different view. <a href="https://hbr.org/2022/12/research-few-corporate-spinoffs-deliver-value">Harvard Business Review</a> says of the 350 spinoffs valued at $1 billion or more it looked at between 2000 and 2020, half failed to create any new combined value within two years of separation. And a quarter of them destroyed &ldquo;a significant amount&rdquo; of shareholder value. Its conclusion was spinoffs &ldquo;delivered as little as a 5% increase in combined market cap two years after spinning off.&rdquo;



Sometimes, spinoffs harbor deep, hidden problems that can cause deep losses if you&rsquo;re not careful. Maybe investors need to be more wary. What follows are three disappointing spinoffs that failed to live up to their potential so far.



<h2>Warner Bros Discovery (WBD)</h2>

AT&amp;T&lsquo;s (NYSE:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/t-stock-quote/">T</a>) WarnerMedia business was spun off in April 2022 and then immediately merged with TV and streaming company Discovery. The resulting Warner Bros Discovery has struggled almost from the day it went public.



AT&amp;T shed the media unit to focus on its telecom business. It also allowed it to pay down the mountain of debt the telecom had amassed over the years. WarnerMedia owned the venerable HBO brand and the HBO Max streaming service. Discovery had numerous TV properties including TLC, HGTV and Food Network, but also the Discovery+ streaming business. Together the two companies would be an entertainment powerhouse because of the Warner Bros Pictures movie studio with its library of films.



Unfortunately, it hasn&rsquo;t worked out like that. The stock has lost almost 70% of its value since being spun off. Streaming, it turns out, is a harder business to profit from. While Warner Bros Discovery is one of the <a href="https://www.sec.gov/ix?doc=/Archives/edgar/data/1437107/000143710724000017/wbd-20231231.htm">few profitable streaming services</a>, generating $103 million in adjusted EBITDA from its direct-to-consumer business, it has yet to make up for the $1.6 billion it lost the year before. On the surface, its scale, distribution network, production studios and content ought to ensure it survives the changing media landscape but it&rsquo;s not likely to be a high-growth stock.



<h2>Orion Office REIT (ONL)</h2>

That is a term used to describe motivated homeowners looking to sell fast. It applies equally to former parent Realty Income (NYSE:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/o-stock-quote/">O</a>), which wanted to shed its office property assets.



Realty Income is a specialty retail REIT specializing in certain types of properties, typically one-tenant retail locations. The majority of its portfolio consists of retailers including Walmart (NYSE:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/wmt-stock-quote/">WMT</a>), Dollar General (NYSE:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/dg-stock-quote/">DG</a>), Kroger (NYSE:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/kr-stock-quote/">KR</a>) and Costco (NASDAQ:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/cost-stock-quote/">COST</a>). Particularly through its acquisition of VEREIT, the character of Realty Income&rsquo;s portfolio changed. Managing offices is not the same as managing retail space and the office market is in trouble. 



Vacancy rates hit a <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2024-04-02/office-vacancy-rate-nears-20-to-set-fresh-record-moody-s-says#:~:text=US%20office%20vacancies%20hit%20a,the%20fourth%20quarter%20of%202023.">record 19.8% in the first quarter</a> and have been steadily climbing. Orion&rsquo;s stock has lost 86% of its value since being spun off in November 2021.&nbsp;



While office vacancies have always yo-yo&rsquo;d over the years, the pandemic set a permanent change in the market. The work-from-home model exploded, and though many people have returned to the office, many others have not. Businesses are also sharply downsizing their workforce, meaning they don&rsquo;t need as much square footage. Orion seems as if it will have a hard road to travel to make itself an investment-worthy stock.



<h2>Vestis (VSTS)</h2>

The stock has been largely a disappointment since its separation, essentially treading water while rival Cintas (NASDAQ:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/ctas-stock-quote/">CTAS</a>) runs 45% ahead.



However, Vestis <a href="https://finance.yahoo.com/news/vestis-corporation-earnings-missed-analyst-123021419.html#:~:text=Vestis%20Corporation%20(NYSE%3AVSTS),just%20US%240.05%20per%20share.">badly missed Wall Street estimates</a> last week and the stock&rsquo;s knees were cut out from under it. Shares plunged on the report and Vestis has lost nearly half its value.



The company&rsquo;s fiscal second-quarter report showed Vestis is having trouble keeping customers. CEO Kim Scott said the workplace supplier was going to limit raising its prices to improve customer retention, showing just how hard the economic environment is for businesses. But it doesn&rsquo;t explain how Cintas, the <a href="https://eaglepointcapital.substack.com/p/vestis-recent-spinoff-in-an-attractive">industry leader with about a 20% share</a> of the market, continues growing. Vestis is the second-largest player but trails far behind with a 6% share.



There may be leverage Vestis can use to improve its position. It could cross-sell customers other services, such as floor care, restroom supplies or first aid supplies, though it hasn&rsquo;t worked out that way. At least not yet.



Vestis has only been on the market for less than a year so it may take time. Depending upon whose research you look at, it may take a couple of years for a spinoff to finally pay off. Or the promised shareholder value may never get unlocked.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average, an index of 30 <a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-types/blue-chip-stocks/">blue-chip stocks</a> meant to act as a bellwether for the American economy, has been moving in fits and starts this year. So far in 2024, the index is up a ho-hum 3%. As is often the case, the <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/dow-30/">Dow 30</a> is lagging behind the other two major U.S. stock indices. The benchmark S&amp;P 500 index is up nearly 10% year-to-date, while the technology-filled Nasdaq index has increased by nearly 11%.



The <a href="https://www.slickcharts.com/dowjones/performance">Dow&rsquo;s spotty performance</a> is due to a handful of stocks that continue to languish in the red. These laggards are well-known companies that have been struggling lately due to a combination of inflation and high interest rates that have hurt the consumer spending these names rely on for their sales. This isn&rsquo;t a situation unique to the U.S. Economies and markets around the world have experienced a slowdown in consumer spending due to the current environment. Sadly the situation looks likely to get worse before it gets better.



Here are three Dow stocks to sell in May before the crash and burn. 



<h2>Home Depot (HD)</h2>

Executives at the company have said during earnings calls that sales growth is being driven by contractors, roofers, and other home professionals after the COVID-19 pandemic. While that might be true, the purchase of SRS Distribution comes at a sensitive time.



Home Depot has struggled in a <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2024/02/20/home-depot-hd-q4-2023-earnings.html#:~:text=Earnings%20per%20share%3A%20%242.82%20vs,%242.77%20expected">difficult operating environment</a> over the past year as demand for home improvement projects has cooled and consumers have pulled back their spending, particularly on big-ticket items such as appliances, due to inflation and high interest rates. Home Depot most recently forecasted that its sales would grow by 1% this year. That was below the 1.6% increase forecast by analysts. HD stock fell 4% after its most recent earnings print. The company next reports financial results on May 14.



HD stock is flat year-to-date.



<h2>3M (MMM)</h2>

Earlier this year, the maker of Post-it notes spun off its healthcare business into a new publicly traded company called Solventum (NYSE:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/solv-stock-quote/">SOLV</a>), which started trading on April 1. At the same time, 3M just <a href="https://www.canadianelectricalwholesaler.ca/3m-william-brown-as-new-ceo/#:~:text=3M%20Names%20William%20Brown%20as%20New%20CEO%2C%20Succeeding%20Michael%20Roman,-March%2014%2C%202024&amp;text=He%20succeeds%20Michael%20Roman%2C%20who,for%203M%2C%E2%80%9D%20said%20Roman.">replaced longtime CEO</a> Mike Roman on May 1. William Brown, the former CEO of L3Harris Technologies (NYSE:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/lhx-stock-quote/">LHX</a>), has taken the helm of the company. These changes come as 3M settles several major legal cases against it.



3M has finalized two major legal settlements, agreeing to pay $10.3 billion to address <a href="https://apnews.com/article/pfas-drinking-water-settlement-3m-fa41cadfe0d65b9723377a681df43af1">chemical spills in drinking water</a> and $6 billion to resolve lawsuits related to its military earplugs. While the settlements alleviate some uncertainty that has been hanging over the company, they also saddle 3M with expensive payments that are sure to impact the company&rsquo;s financial results and share price in the near term. While MMM stock is up 4% this year, it is down 35% over the last five years, making it a Dow stock to sell.



<h2>Nike (NKE)</h2>

Down 26% in the last 12 months, including a 12% drawdown so far in 2024, NKE stock continues to be a laggard when it comes to Dow components. Corporate earnings released at the end of March showed a continued <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2024/03/21/nike-nke-earnings-q3-2024.html">slowdown of sales in China</a>, further depressing the share price. The chronic underperformance makes Nike a Dow stock to sell in May before things get any worse.



In its latest print, Nike reported that its China sales increased 5% on an annualized basis, which marked a deceleration as that country&rsquo;s economy has been slowing down. In Europe, the Middle East and Africa, revenue declined 3% year over year. The company expects total sales to grow only 1% this year. Last December, Nike announced a restructuring plan to reduce its costs by $2 billion over three years. More recently, the company <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2024/02/16/nike-to-lay-off-2percent-of-employees-cutting-more-than-1500-jobs.html">cut 2% of its global workforce</a> or about 1,500 jobs. But those moves still don&rsquo;t seem to be enough for investors.

3 Dow Stocks to Sell in May Before They Crash & Burn

The 'Undercovered' Dozen From April 2024

American stocks had a great performance this week as the first-quarter earnings season came to a close. The Dow Jones indicator has risen for three straight weeks and is nearing its all-time high of $40,000.

Dividend Aristocrats are a unique class of <a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-types/dividend-stocks/">dividend stocks</a>. They are companies that are members of the S&amp;P 500 and have increased their payouts to shareholders for at least 25 years. That&rsquo;s no small feat. Out of the thousands of publicly traded stocks on the market, only 68 stocks made the cut this year.&nbsp;



This elite group of royals are important because dividend <a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-types/growth-stocks/">growth stocks</a> tend to outperform all other stocks over time. Looking back to 1930, Ned Davis Research found <a href="https://documents.nuveen.com/Documents/nuveen/Default.aspx?uniqueId=5d8a964c-cbcf-4a07-b181-eb6ace0eb3b4">companies that initiated a dividend</a> and then grew the payout beat every other class of stock, whether they paid a dividend or not.



And yet, Dividend Aristocrats constantly evolve. Each year, more companies cross over the quarter-century threshold of dividend increases. They are added to the group, while others are forced to drop out because they are either removed from the benchmark index or cut their payouts.&nbsp;



Below are three recent dividend royals who cut their payouts and can no longer be considered Aristocrats. Are they better stocks now to buy, or should you run away from them? Let&rsquo;s find out!



<h2>3M (MMM)</h2>

MMM stock"><div>Source: JPstock / Shutterstock.com</div></div>Industrial conglomerate 3M (NYSE:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/mmm-stock-quote/">MMM</a>) had a 66-year history of raising its payout, but legal liabilities pressured its free cash flow (FCF). With some analysts estimating it could run into the billions of dollars to settle everything, there might be little to nothing left over to support the dividend.



Dividend increases were miserly too. Over the past few years, 3M raised the payout by only a few cents at a time. It meant investors were receiving less income because of the ravaging effects of rampant inflation. To return some value to shareholders, 3M recently <a href="https://investorplace.com/2024/04/dividend-danger-zone-3-aristocrats-on-the-brink-of-a-payout-cut/">spun off its healthcare business</a> Solventum (NYSE:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/solv-stock-quote/">SOLV</a>) into a separately traded company.&nbsp;



However, the unit was responsible for 30% of 3M&rsquo;s cash flows. As that would further pressure the dividend, the conglomerate reset its payout to 40% of adjusted FCF compared to 60% before the spinoff. While that causes it to lose its Dividend Aristocrat status, does it make 3M a better dividend stock to buy now?&nbsp;



Over just about any timeframe, 3M has significantly underperformed the market. Yet the industrial conglomerate is settling its lawsuits, and clarity is beginning to form. Retiring CEO Mike Roman said, &ldquo;Paying a competitive dividend has been a priority for 3M for more than 100 years. This will continue to be true&rdquo; <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2024-04-30/3m-to-cut-dividend-on-health-care-spin-losing-aristocrat-status">after the spinoff</a>.



MMM stock now sits at an attractive valuation, its balance sheet will be in a better position, and it has the potential for earnings growth going forward. This could be the best time in years to buy 3M stock. Still, investors might want to wait for the dust to settle to see if the conglomerate&rsquo;s business can turn around.



<h2>Walgreens Boots Alliance (WBA)</h2>

WBA stock"><div>Source: Mahmoud Suhail / Shutterstock.com</div></div>Drugstore chain Walgreens Boots Alliance (NASDAQ:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/wba-stock-quote/">WBA</a>) was another Dividend Aristocrat with a long track record of raising its payout. Walgreens had 47 years under its belt before deciding to slash it by 48% in January. The shocking news was needed, though, as the pharmacy suffered in the aftermath of the pandemic.&nbsp;



Yet Walgreens has been an even worse performer than 3M. Over the past decade, the pharmacy&rsquo;s total return was negative 65%, a tremendous destruction of shareholder value. Walgreens sought to shed its U.K.-based Boots pharmacy business and a beauty care products outfit to turn the company around and free up more cash to invest in the industry. When that fell through, it was clear the dividend needed to be cut.&nbsp;



Walgreens is still headed in the wrong direction, and shares are down 33% in 2024. While it may be on track to deliver some $1 billion in cost savings this year, the company has yet to show how that will translate into growth. At this point, Walgreens Boots Alliance remains a dividend stock to avoid.



<h2>VF Corp (VFC)</h2>

The owner of such notable brands as The North Face, Timberland, Dickies and Vans also suffered from the pandemic, albeit differently than Walgreens. It took on excess debt when consumers were reining in discretionary spending to survive. That led to a build-up in inventory just as inflation was running rampant.



Remarkably, VF&rsquo;s 10-year stock performance made Walgreens look good. Its total return for the period was negative 72.5%.&nbsp;



VF slashed its dividend by 41% to conserve cash, reducing the quarterly payout from $0.51 to $0.30. It launched numerous cost-cutting measures, including selling non-core assets while eliminating non-strategic spending. When profits kept plunging, it withdrew its full-year outlook and cut the payout again! This time by 70%, down to $0.9 per share.



There is no bottom yet for the apparel stock. With management saying &ldquo;everything is on the table&rdquo; at this point, there is no reason for an investor to get near this stock.

Today, we discuss three thematic ETFs to buy for investors looking to tap into future trends, consumer preferences or disruptive technologies. Metrics suggest how fast investor sentiment <a href="https://www.etfcentral.com/news/key-takeaways-from-the-2024-trackinsight-global-etf-survey-thematic-etfs">towards certain themes,</a> industries, countries or stocks may change on Wall Street. For instance, since the early days of COVID-19, we have witnessed different trends, including healthcare, green investing, blockchain, crypto, <a href="https://investorplace.com/2024/05/baidu-stock-analysis-its-surprisingly-cheap-to-bet-on-chinas-chatgpt/">China&rsquo;s digitalization.</a> cybersecurity, autonomous&nbsp;vehicles and artificial intelligence (<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/ai-stock-quote/">AI</a>). Yet, looking beyond the short-term and selecting the right theme demands vigilant due diligence and analysis.



The three thematic ETFs we introduce today may help investors capture the market&rsquo;s pulse and capitalize on specific industries without betting on single stocks. However, we should note that many thematic ETFs come with higher expense ratios than widely-held index funds tracking the S&amp;P 500, the Dow Jones Industrial Average or the Nasdaq 100 indices. Such higher annual expenses could potentially impact overall returns, so buyer beware.



<h2>Defiance Quantum &amp; AI ETF (QTUM)</h2>

Meanwhile, consumer interest in the generative AI platforms, such as Alphabet&rsquo;s (NASDAQ:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/googl-stock-quote/">GOOGL</a>, NASDAQ:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/goog-stock-quote/">GOOG</a>) Gemini and OpenAI&rsquo;s ChatGPT, are projected to drive the generative AI market to <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/company/press/generative-ai-to-become-a-1-3-trillion-market-by-2032-research-finds/">$1.3 trillion by 2032.</a> In other words, the AI segment is looking at a 42% compound annual growth rate (CAGR), compared to $40 billion in 2022.



Thus, our first pick among the thematic ETFs to buy is the Defiance Quantum &amp; AI ETF (NYSEARCA:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/qtum-stock-quote/">QTUM</a>). The fund <a href="https://www.defianceetfs.com/qtum/">offers exposure to leading global businesses</a> in transformative computing technologies such as machine learning, quantum computing and cloud platforms.



QTUM currently <a href="https://www.defianceetfs.com/wp-content/uploads/funddocs/qtum/QTUM-FactSheet.pdf?rand=0.760694749908339">holds 70 stocks,</a> with its top 10 holdings accounting for 20% of its $252 million net assets. Quantum Computing Technology dominates the subsector breakdown at 40%, followed by Machine Learning Services (19%) and AI &amp; Application Chips (16%). The majority of firms, over 58%, are U.S.-based, with notable presence from Japan (13%), and the Netherlands (8%).



Among QTUM&rsquo;s top holdings, we see a globally diverse set of technology companies. They include the cryptocurrency developer MicroStrategy (NASDAQ:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/mstr-stock-quote/">MSTR</a>), Nvidia (NASDAQ:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/nvda-stock-quote/">NVDA</a>), Socionext (OTCMKTS:SOCNF), Micron Technology (NASDAQ:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/mu-stock-quote/">MU</a>) and MKS Instruments (NASDAQ:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/mksi-stock-quote/">MKSI</a>).



Year-to-date (YTD), the fund has <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/quotes/QTUM?qsearchterm=qtum">gained nearly 10%</a> and currently trades at <a href="https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/QTUM">26.5 times trailing earnings.</a> We believe QTUM presents a potential opportunity for investing in transformative quantum and AI technologies without having to select individual stocks. Readers should note the expense ratio of 0.4% and dividend yield of 0.8%.



<h2>Invesco S&amp;P Spin-Off ETF (CSD)</h2>

Despite a <a href="https://www.morningstar.com/markets/spinoffs-are-new-ipos">slowdown in initial public offering</a> (<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/ipo-stock-quote/">IPO</a>) activity, <a href="https://stockanalysis.com/actions/spinoffs/2023/">spinoff numbers have surged,</a> with well over 20 in both 2022 and 2023. So far in 2024, Wall Street has seen three <a href="https://stockanalysis.com/actions/spinoffs/2024/">spinoffs.</a>



Therefore, continuing our thematic ETFs to buy, we focus on the <a href="https://www.invesco.com/us/financial-products/etfs/product-detail?audienceType=Investor&amp;ticker=CSD">Invesco S&amp;P Spin-Off ETF</a> (NYSEARCA:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/csd-stock-quote/">CSD</a>). It gives access to U.S. companies spun off from their parent companies within the past four years. Launched in December 2006, the fund has a market value close to $60 million.



The CSD fund has 32 holdings and the top 10 stocks represent approximately 60% of the portfolio. Among the leading names are GE Vernova (NYSE:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/gev-stock-quote/">GEV</a>), Veralto (NYSE:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/vlto-stock-quote/">VLTO</a>), Constellation Energy (NASDAQ:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/ceg-stock-quote/">CEG</a>), GE HealthCare Technologies (NASDAQ:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/gehc-stock-quote/">GEHC</a>) and Solventum (NYSE:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/solv-stock-quote/">SOLV</a>). Sector allocations include Industrials (43%), Health Care (20%) and Information Technology (9%), among others.



Last week, CSD hit an all-time high. It has <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/quotes/CSD?qsearchterm=csd">gained over 13%</a> since January, outperforming the <a href="https://www.spglobal.com/spdji/en/indices/equity/sp-500/#overview">S&amp;P 500&rsquo;s 9%</a> YTD return. These returns are, in fact, consistent with <a href="https://www.diva-portal.org/smash/get/diva2:1127475/FULLTEXT01.pdf">academic research</a> that suggests it may be &ldquo;&hellip;more profitable to invest in a portfolio consisting of spinoffs than&hellip;.the general stock market.&rdquo;



Finally, investors may want to note that the CSD ETF&rsquo;s trailing price-to-earnings (P/E) and price-to-book (P/B) ratios stand at 17x and 3x. Additionally, CDS has a 0.65% net expense ratio and 0.5% dividend yield.



<h2>ProShares Pet Care ETF (PAWZ)</h2>

If you are looking to capitalize on the growing trend of pet ownership and demand for pet-related products and services, then this fund should be on your radar.



Launched in November 2018, PAWZ comprises 25 stocks. The fund&rsquo;s top 10 holdings include Zoetis (NYSE:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/zts-stock-quote/">ZTS</a>), Freshpet (NASDAQ:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/frpt-stock-quote/">FRPT</a>), IDEXX Laboratories (NASDAQ:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/idxx-stock-quote/">IDXX</a>), Chewy (NYSE:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/chwy-stock-quote/">CHWY</a>) and French veterinary pharmaceutical company Virbac (OTCMKTS:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/vrbcf-stock-quote/">VRBCF</a>). These 10 businesses account for almost 70% of its $61 million net assets.



Around two-thirds of the businesses are U.S.-based, followed by the U.K. (9%), France (7%), Switzerland (4%) and Canada (4%). Sector weightings include Pharmaceuticals, Biotechnology (25%), followed by Health Care Equipment &amp; Services (20%), Food, Beverage &amp; Tobacco (20%) and Consumer Discretionary Distribution (19%).



With the global pet care market <a href="https://www.precedenceresearch.com/pet-care-market#:~:text=The%20global%20pet%20care%20market%20will%20register%20growth,7.03%25%20between%202024%20and%202033.">projected to exceed $597 billion</a> by 2033 and the U.S. <a href="https://www.nar.realtor/blogs/economists-outlook/a-stunning-stat-there-are-more-american-households-with-pets-than-children">households with pets outnumbering</a> those with children, the sector shows clear growth potential. However, customer&rsquo;s changing behavior due to economic pressures like <a href="https://animalhealthnewsandviews.com/the-pet-industry-is-doing-great-and-getting-worse/">&ldquo;petflation&rdquo;</a> have <a href="https://blog.marketresearch.com/5-key-pet-industry-trends-to-watch-2024-2028#:~:text=Continued%20Pet%20Industry%20Growth%20Amid,annual%20growth%20rate%20(CAGR).">led to struggles</a> for many businesses in the sector.



As a result, PAWZ <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/quotes/PAWZ?qsearchterm=pawz">declined over 6%</a> since January and nearly 5% over the past year. Meanwhile, it has a 0.50% expense ratio and 0.4% dividend yield. Despite challenges, investing in pet care portfolios for long-term gains remains a potentially prudent choice, given the ongoing trend of pet ownership.
