Additionally, MAS825 from&nbsp;Novartis AG&nbsp;(NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NVS#NYSE">NVS</a>), which targets both IL-1β and IL-18, succeeded in a placebo-controlled trial for HS.&nbsp;
These findings, along with physiological research on HS inflammatory lesions, strongly suggest the involvement of IL-1β in HS.
The analyst writes that Phase 2 will likely lead to advancing the development process for registration and integrating a pen autoinjector for commercial use.&nbsp;
Anticipating a peak market penetration of 15% and a launch price of $75,000 in 2029, aligning with other approved biologics. Oppenheimer anticipates an increase in patient identification rates for HS, a condition often overlooked.

U.S. District Judge Roy Altman&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://cases.justia.com/federal/district-courts/florida/flsdce/1:2023cv23586/654456/46/0.pdf?ts=1712851105" rel="noreferrer noopener">ruled</a>&nbsp;that the drugmaker&nbsp;Eli Lilly And Co&nbsp;(NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/LLY#NYSE">LLY</a>) cannot rely on state law to stop a compounding pharmacy,&nbsp;RXCompoundStore.com, from marketing its version of the drug tirzepatide.&nbsp;
Eli Lilly markets tirzepatide as Mounjaro for diabetes and Zepbound for weightloss.
According to Judge Altman, Lilly&#8217;s attempt to prevent this through the courts was seen as an effort to circumvent federal law.
&#8220;We think Eli Lilly is using state law to enforce the terms of the FDCA [Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act], which … is a task generally &#8216;reserve[d] to the FDA,'&#8221; Altman wrote, adding that the court will not allow Lilly &#8220;to use state law as a back door to private enforce the FDCA.&#8221;
&#8220;As the Supreme Court has made clear, &#8216;the FDCA and its regulations provide the United States with nearly exclusive enforcement authority,'&#8221; the judge&#8217;s ruling states. &#8220;Given the federal government&#8217;s &#8216;nearly exclusive&#8217; authority to enforce the FDCA, courts around the country have generally refused to encroach on that authority by adjudicating claims that a party has (or has not) complied with the FDCA.&#8221;

In March, the U.S. pharma giant revealed that it has identified bacteria and elevated impurity levels in products falsely claiming to be compounded versions of tirzepatide, the active ingredient in its widely-used diabetes medication Mounjaro and the&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/biotech/24/03/37544347/eli-lillys-legal-battle-against-fake-compounded-tirzepatide-products-bacteria-impurities-detected" rel="noreferrer noopener">weight loss treatment Zepbound</a>.&nbsp;
Lilly competitor Novo Nordisk A/S (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NVO#NYSE">NVO</a>), which markets Ozempic and Wegovy, has also been going after compounding pharmacies and wellness clinics for selling altered versions of semaglutide.&nbsp;
In November 2023,&nbsp;Novo Nordisk announced a&nbsp;legal action against Florida compounding pharmacies, suing one and refiling a lawsuit against another, as it discovered impurities in their products claiming to contain the active ingredient, semaglutide, for its popular&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/biotech/23/06/32929431/novo-nordisk-takes-legal-action-against-wellness-clinics-for-false-advertising-of-weight-loss-dru" rel="noreferrer noopener">weight-loss drug Wegovy</a>.&nbsp;
The Danish drugmaker found these impurities to be as high as 33% in some instances, raising concerns about the safety and efficacy of&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/biotech/23/11/36020513/novo-nordisk-sues-florida-compounding-pharmacies-over-impurities-in-products-claiming-to-contain-" rel="noreferrer noopener">the compounded drugs</a>.

Eli Lilly Suffers Legal Loss For Its Popular Weight Loss/Diabetes Drug In Lawsuit Against Florida Compounding Pharmacy

The European Medicines Agency&#8217;s Pharmacovigilance Risk Assessment Committee (PRAC) has&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://www.ema.europa.eu/en/news/meeting-highlights-pharmacovigilance-risk-assessment-committee-prac-8-11-april-2024" rel="noreferrer noopener">determined</a>&nbsp;that there is no substantial evidence supporting a link between Glucagon-Like Peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1) and suicidal or self-injurious thoughts and behaviors.&nbsp;
The assessment comes following reports of suicidal thoughts or actions. The FDA also conducted a&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/biotech/24/01/36509636/novo-nordisks-ozempic-and-wegovy-helps-lose-weight-not-ones-mind-us-study-find-no-increased-suici" rel="noreferrer noopener">review of GLP-1 RAs</a>.
The FDA released an update stating that its preliminary review did not show definitive evidence that the drugs cause&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/24/01/36602710/fda-finds-no-evidence-weight-loss-drugs-cause-suicidal-thoughts" rel="noreferrer noopener">suicidal thoughts or actions</a>.
GLP-1 receptor agonists, including dulaglutide, exenatide, liraglutide, lixisenatide, and semaglutide, are commonly prescribed for treating type 2 diabetes and, under specific conditions, for managing weight in obese or overweight adults.
The review was initiated in July 2023, prompted by reports of suicidal ideation among users of liraglutide and semaglutide medications.&nbsp;
In November 2023, the committee&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/biotech/23/12/36046376/weight-loss-drugs-and-associated-suicidal-thoughts-european-drug-regulator-seeks-clarifications-f" rel="noreferrer noopener">requested additional data</a>&nbsp;from the marketing authorization holders for these medications, including&nbsp;Novo Nordisk A/S&#8217;s&nbsp;(NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NVO#NYSE">NVO</a>) Ozempic, Rybelsus, Wegovy, Saxenda, Victoza, and Xultophy;&nbsp;AstraZeneca Plc&#8217;s&nbsp;(NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AZN#NASDAQ">AZN</a>) Byetta and Bydureon;&nbsp;Sanofi SA&#8217;s&nbsp;(NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SNY#NASDAQ">SNY</a>) Lyxumia, and Suliqua; and&nbsp;Eli Lilly And Co&#8217;s&nbsp;(NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/LLY#NYSE">LLY</a>) Trulicity.&nbsp;
Furthermore, the committee scrutinized the outcomes of a recent study based on a vast electronic health records database.&nbsp;
This study, which investigated the incidence of suicidal ideation in overweight patients with type 2 diabetes receiving semaglutide or other non-GLP-1 receptor agonist medications, found no direct link between semaglutide usage and suicidal thoughts.
The EMA conducted a study using electronic health records to investigate the risk of suicide and self-injury in people with type 2 diabetes using GLP-1 receptor agonists.&nbsp;
They found no evidence establishing a direct link between these medications and the mentioned risks.&nbsp;
Following a review of various data sources, including non-clinical studies, clinical trials, and post-marketing surveillance data, the PRAC concluded that no revision to the product information is necessary.&nbsp;
The PRAC determined that no changes to the product information are needed. The medication companies will continue monitoring these events and updating their safety reports accordingly.&nbsp;
Additionally, the PRAC approved a communication plan to inform healthcare professionals about differences between current and proposed formulations of Rybelsus, an oral semaglutide medication for poorly controlled type 2 diabetes.

Novo Nordisk/Eli Lilly's Weight Loss Drugs Does Not Cause Suicidal Behaviors - After FDA, European Medicines Agency Says

The&nbsp;PRAC&nbsp;has concluded that the available evidence does not support a causal association between the Glucagon-Like Peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1) &ndash; dulaglutide, exenatide, liraglutide, lixisenatide and semaglutide &ndash; and suicidal and self-injurious thoughts and actions.
GLP-1 receptor agonists are used to treat type 2 diabetes and some are also authorised for weight management under certain conditions in adults who are obese or overweight. The review started in July 2023, following case reports of suicidal thoughts and thoughts of self-injury from people using liraglutide and semaglutide medicines, and in November 2023 the committee requested additional data from the&nbsp;marketing authorisation holders&nbsp;for these medicines, namely Ozempic, Rybelsus, Wegovy, Victoza, Saxenda, Xultophy, Byetta, Bydureon, Lyxumia, Suliqua and Trulicity.
Additionally, the committee analysed the results of a recent study1, based on a large database of electronic health records, which investigated the incidence of suicidal thoughts in patients with overweight and type 2 diabetes mellitus treated with semaglutide or other non-GLP-1 receptor agonist medicines for diabetes or overweight. The study found no causal association between the use of semaglutide and suicidal thoughts.
Another study was conducted by EMA2, based on electronic health records, which examined the risk of suicide-related and self-injury-related events in people with type 2 diabetes mellitus. The results did not support a causal association between the use of GLP-1 receptor agonists and this risk.
After reviewing the available evidence from non-clinical studies,&nbsp;clinical trials, post-marketing surveillance data and the available studies the&nbsp;PRAC&nbsp;considers that no update to the&nbsp;product information&nbsp;is warranted.
The&nbsp;marketing authorisation holders&nbsp;for these medicines will continue to monitor these events closely, including any new publications, as part of their&nbsp;pharmacovigilance&nbsp;activities and report any new evidence on this issue in their&nbsp;Periodic Safety Update Reports&nbsp;(PSURs).

Amazon has <a href="https://scrippsnews.com/stories/amazon-will-soon-offer-its-smart-grocery-carts-to-other-retail-stores/">expanded its Dash Cart</a> beyond its stores to third-party grocers, aiming to broaden its reach. Initially tested in select Amazon Fresh and Whole Foods Market locations, the smart carts are now available at Kansas City McKeever&rsquo;s Market and Price Chopper stores. This has made the company&rsquo;s efforts to enhance their customer&rsquo;s shopping experience through seamless and convenient checkout-free innovation.



Analysts from Needham also stated a strong buy rating for AMZN stock to add a cherry on top. With a price target of $205, Amazon is attracting more investors&rsquo; confidence.&nbsp; The analyst at Needham, Laura Martin, adjusted her fiscal 2024 profit projections upward, citing CEO Andy Jassy&rsquo;s commitment to further cost-cutting initiatives in inbound fulfillment and inventory placement.&nbsp;



<h2>Eli Lilly (LLY)</h2>

However, others note that holding Eli Lilly through earnings can be risky, given its elevated valuation.



Now that Wall Street is turning into the hype of weight-loss drugs, LLY stock has also gained traction for investors. Eli Lilly&rsquo;s <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2024/04/17/eli-lillys-zepbound-shows-promise-as-sleep-apnea-treatment-in-trial.html">infamous Zepbound</a> and Novo Nordisk&rsquo;s semaglutide are only two of the best weight-loss options. Eli Lilly&rsquo;s tirzepatide shows promise in reducing the severity of sleep apnea, and with more indications, the total potential addressable market for this drug grows by the day.



Surprisingly, this news had minimal impact on Eli Lilly&rsquo;s stock, suggesting its potential may already be factored in. However, tirzepatide&rsquo;s ability to target a vast obstructive sleep apnea market of 80 million U.S. adults is noteworthy. Eli Lilly and others may need an awareness campaign to maximize this opportunity.&nbsp;



Moreover, investors look forward to April 30, when Eli Lilly will release its Q1 2024 earnings results. This could be a big catalyst that could lead to big gains for long-term investors. 



<h2>Qualcomm (QCOM)</h2>

Qualcomm&rsquo;s AI chips also position the company well to capitalize on the broader AI PC and smartphone market, reducing dependence on Apple.



Despite lagging demand for pricey handsets due to inflation concerns, Qualcomm defies the broader downtrend many have called for in the smartphone chip realm. Its Snapdragon Gen 8 and 8S chips pioneer generative AI in phones, expanding from high-end to lower-range models, aligning with growing AI usage in smartphones.

You might be hard-pressed to find better investments than <a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-types/dividend-stocks/">dividend stocks</a> with 100-plus years of payouts. More than a dozen companies began paying dividends in the Roaring Twenties or before and are still paying them today. Below are three top dividend stocks that all started sharing their wealth with investors in the 1800s. They just might be worth adding to your portfolio now.



<h2>Eli Lilly ( LLY)</h2>

Some 139 years later, those income checks still arrive in shareholder mailboxes. Today is arguably the best time to own Eli Lilly stock than at any other point before.



The advent of the twin diabetes and obesity therapies Mounjaro and Zepbound mark a new period of growth for the pharmaceutical stock. Belonging to a <a href="https://investorplace.com/2024/02/nvo-lly-or-azn-which-pharma-stock-is-the-best-weight-loss-investment/">class of drugs known as glycogen-like peptide-1</a> (GLP-1), these treatments lower blood sugar levels in patients using the same active ingredient, tirzepatide. Mounjaro is approved for type 2 diabetes, while Zepbound is approved for helping patients with weight loss.



Lilly saw a <a href="https://www.sec.gov/ix?doc=/Archives/edgar/data/59478/000005947824000032/lly-20240206.htm">28% increase</a> in total fourth-quarter revenue on higher prices from Mounjaro, which generated $2.2 billion in sales for the period. It saw $5.1 billion in sales for all of 2023. Zepbound was introduced in the fourth quarter and generated $175 million in sales. Expect that number to rocket higher going forward, as Mounjaro had only made $279 million in its first quarter after its introduction in 2022.



Eli Lilly stock&rsquo;s dividend yields 0.6% but has steadily climbed for the past decade. In December, the pharma <a href="https://investor.lilly.com/news-releases/news-release-details/lilly-announces-15-dividend-increase-first-quarter-2024-dividend">hiked the quarterly payout</a> by 15% to $1.30 per share.



<h2>Colgate-Palmolive (CL)</h2>

However, it began regularly increasing the payout in 1963, and the 61-year history of dividend hikes makes the <a href="https://investorplace.com/2023/10/3-dividend-kings-every-investor-should-own-to-survive-a-market-crash/">consumer products giant a Dividend King</a>.



Best known for its toothpaste and dishwashing detergent, Colgate owns a portfolio of top-selling, brand-name products. It owns Irish Spring soap, Speed Stick deodorant and Ajax cleaner, among others. It owns the global market in oral care products but is also a leader in personal care products and specialty pet nutrition products through Science Hill&rsquo;s dog and cat food business.



That&rsquo;s the benefit of owning so many name brands. Consumers know and trust the consistency and quality of what they buy no matter where they are in the world. A tube of Colgate toothpaste will be the same whether you pick it up in Guatemala or Peoria. Oral care products <a href="https://www.sec.gov/ix?doc=/Archives/edgar/data/21665/000002166524000003/cl-20231231.htm">represent 42%</a> of Colgate&rsquo;s total revenue.



The quarterly dividend <a href="https://finance.yahoo.com/news/colgate-palmolive-nyse-cl-announced-123319651.html#:~:text=Colgate%2DPalmolive%20Company%20(NYSE%3A,the%20average%20for%20the%20industry.">increased last month</a> to $0.50 per share, yielding 2.3% annually.



<h2>Procter &amp; Gamble (PG)</h2>

It also has a deep bench of consumer products with the No. 1 or No. 2 market share position in their respective categories. Well-known brands like Crest, Charmin, Febreeze, Pampers, and Tide have the same reliability for consumers as they do for their rival products.



Procter &amp; Gamble began paying dividends in 1890 and announced its 68th consecutive annual increase in payouts and the 134th year of paying dividends earlier this month. It raised the quarterly payout to an excruciatingly $1.0065 per share earlier this month.



Products like those P&amp;G makes are essential for everyday living. It&rsquo;s a smart business strategy because it ensures consumers return again and again to buy more. It also makes Procter &amp; Gamble stock an all-weather company to own. If the stock market collapses, investors can be sure that P&amp;G will still profitably sell plenty of toilet paper, diapers and detergent.
