Microsoft Corp.'s MSFT Windows 11 operating system will not install updates if you have conflicting apps installed, but that is not immediately explained in the error reports. Now, we have a list of apps that could be causing Windows 11 update failures.
What Happened: A recent discovery by a German website, DeskModder, revealed a list of apps potentially hindering the Windows 11 update.
The list is stored within the “appraiser.sdb” file, which Windows 11 checks during the upgrade.
It includes the following apps:
- Solidworks PDM
- StartAllBack
- AMD Radeon Software
- EaseUS Disk Copy
- Explorer Patcher
- iCloud Files (shared via WhatsApp)
- MergeSdb (Microsoft)
- Intel IntcOED.sys (Intel)
- Intel IntcAudioBus.sys
- Realtek 8192su Wireless USB 2.0 Adapter
The process will be blocked if any of these apps are detected during the upgrade.
However, there is a workaround for users of these apps. As previously reported, fans of StartAllBack found that they could uninstall the app, update Windows 11, and then reinstall it. This bypasses the block and allows the app to be reinstalled.

Why It Matters: Many users have been interested in Windows 11 updates. Microsoft has been introducing new features to Windows 11, such as using Android devices as webcams and Generative AI-powered photo editing features.
However, these new updates could be hindered for users with the listed apps, potentially causing inconvenience.
