Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) has likened Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) to a Democrat, asserting that he is comparable to former Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).

What Happened: Greene, in an interview with CNN, criticized Johnson for striking a bipartisan deal on a $1.2 trillion funding bill. She accused Johnson of betraying the Republican party by relying on Democratic votes for the bill’s passage and not addressing key GOP policy demands.

"People are fed up with Republicans that say one thing and turn around and literally join the flock and just continue the same old crap everybody's tired of," Greene said.

"And here, Mike Johnson, he's literally turned into Mitch McConnell's twin and worse. He's a Democrat."

"There's not even any daylight between him and Nancy Pelosi at this point."

Greene also dismissed the idea that ousting Johnson could lead to a more moderate Speaker, stating “We cannot get anyone more moderate than Mike Johnson.”

Why It Matters: Greene’s criticism of Johnson comes after she introduced a resolution to remove him from his position following the bipartisan funding bill. This move sparked internal conflict within the Republican party, with House Republicans strongly criticizing Greene for further dividing the already fractured GOP conference.

Despite the backlash, Greene has remained steadfast in her position, rejecting any blame if Democratic House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) becomes the Speaker of the House following her motion to oust Johnson.

Following her motion to vacate, Johnson said he is scheduled to meet next week. Despite the internal conflict, Johnson reiterated his commitment to the GOP conference and warned that dissension within the party works in favor of the Democrats. He also expressed his intention to discuss with Greene about reforming the budgeting and spending process going forward, emphasizing the need for unity within the Republican party.
