Ex-Trump Aide Calls For Republican Party To Stand Against Former President Ahead Of 2024: 'A Make-Or-Break Moment'

Ex-White House aide, Cassidy Hutchinson, said the Republican Party is at a decisive juncture and must position itself against former President Donald Trump ahead of the 2024 elections.

What Happened: Hutchinson, voicing her concerns about the continued support for Trump by Republican lawmakers during an interview on MSNBC's "The Rachel Maddow Show," pointed out Trump’s ongoing legal troubles and controversies.

"I do not believe that Mr. Trump is a strong Republican. But in this election cycle, in my opinion, it's a make-or-break moment for the Republican Party."

"Now is the time if these politicians, these men, and some women, that are currently in Congress want to make the break and want to take the stand, they have to do it now."

"I think it's extremely disappointing,” Hutchinson said, saying she doesn’t understand why Republican lawmakers continue to show support for Trump, despite the ongoing controversies and legal issues surrounding his presidency.

“This is not a complex issue. We're discussing a man who nearly dismantled democracy in a single day and has intentions to repeat it,” she said.

"He has been indicted four times since January 6. I would not have a clear conscience and be able to sleep at night if I were a Republican in Congress that supported Donald Trump."

Why It Matters: Her comments followed Trump’s recent indictment by a Georgia grand jury, along with 18 of his allies, on charges related to attempting to overturn the 2020 election results. Trump, who began his third presidential campaign last November, has been indicted on three other occasions this year.

The interview also touched upon Hutchinson’s forthcoming book, “Enough,” where she divulges her experiences while working in the Trump administration and the circumstances that led to her testimony before Congress. The book is slated for publication on Tuesday.

In an earlier interview, Hutchinson labeled Trump as “dangerous for the country”. "He is willing and has shown, time and time again, willingness to proliferate lies to vulnerable American people so he could stay in power.”
