Snapchat's New AI Tool Will Let You Click Selfies Against Backdrop Of Your 'Dreams'

Snap Inc-owned SNAP Snapchat is looking to expand its generative AI features, building on the success of its AI-driven chatbot called My AI. The social media company is working on a new feature called “Dreams”, which is said to explore the possibilities of AI-image generation on the platform.

What happened: App researcher Steve Moser shared insights about the upcoming “Dreams” feature on Snapchat. The feature uses AI to allow users to upload or capture selfies that can be crafted into new images within imagined scenarios.

AI-image generation is not groundbreaking since multiple websites and apps already offer this capability, although the effectiveness and quality differ.

However, Moser’s research indicates that Snapchat’s vision with “Dreams” is to create surreal and imaginative settings. The app is said to guide users to provide clear selfies with varied angles, expressions, and lighting, devoid of obstructions or other individuals.

To extend the feature’s usefulness, Snapchat is also working on “Dreams with Friends.” This component allows friends to co-create AI-induced dreamy images once given mutual consent.

Hints about “Dream Packs” being available for purchase within Snapchat’s app have also been spotted, signaling potential monetization avenues for the feature.

Alessandro Paluzzi, a reverse engineer, was among the first to spot “Dreams” earlier this year. He disclosed that the feature would enable users to embed their images within generative AI environments. Snapchat seems to have strategically positioned this feature, situating it between the Camera Roll and Stories.

While details surrounding “Dreams with Friends” and Dream Packs indicate Snapchat’s plans, the company is still tight-lipped on the matter.
