Vivek Ramaswamy Says He Is Open To Hunter Biden Pardon, Claims Case 'Is A Total Fig Leaf'

  • Ramaswamy said that he would consider pardoning Hunter Biden in order to move the nation forward.

On Saturday, Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy criticized the appointment of U.S. Attorney David Weiss as special counsel in the Hunter Biden investigation.

What Happened: In an interview with Fox News, Ramaswamy said, “On the face of it, it would make sense and it’s a good thing to have a special counsel appointed. The problem is that this is a total fig leaf. It is a distraction.”

Ramaswamy explained that Weiss had negotiated a plea deal with the president’s son earlier this year that has since been widely criticized by Republicans as a “sweetheart” deal.

“This is the same individual, the same person, who actually negotiated that plea deal that the judge rejected handily,” Ramaswamy told the outlet. “This is also just a designation of a title for an administration that, in the case of Hunter Biden, has been repeatedly creating one deflection after another.”

“I think the timing in comparison to the Donald Trump indictments are not an accident, for how long that investigation had been ongoing,” he added. “And so, unfortunately, I just do see this as another maneuver to distract the public from the fact that we have two standards of justice.”

According to the New York Post, Ramaswamy said that he would consider pardoning Hunter Biden in order to move the nation forward, following a period of what he considers "politically motivated persecution."

“After we have shut down the FBI, after we have refurbished the Department of Justice, after we have systemically pardoned anyone who was a victim of a political motivated persecution, from Donald Trump and peaceful January 6 protests, then would I be open to evaluating pardons for members of the Biden family in the interest of moving the nation forward,” Ramaswamy told the newspaper.

“It is a broad theme of this candidacy, leading us to a national renewal rather than a national divorce. It’s part of a broader vision of an American revitalization,” he said.
