Despite delays due to permit acquisition, a video from a Mexican newspaper Milenio shows that construction work might have begun as a new piece of machinery was spotted near the proposed location of the factory.

However, neither the government nor Tesla has officially announced the permit issuance.

Elon Musk’s Tesla announced the Gigafactory Mexico project during its Investor Day in March. The future plant, located just outside Monterrey, Nuevo León, is integral to the automaker’s goal of producing 20 million vehicles by the end of the decade.

The factory will house the production of Tesla’s next-generation vehicles, including a cheaper electric hatchback and its Robotaxi vehicle.

The event is expected soon considering the construction activity on-site. The development of Gigafactory Mexico will dictate the timeline for Tesla’s next-generation vehicles in the North American market.
