Tesla Inc TSLA has issued a recall for over 1,300 Model S, X, and Y vehicles made in 2023, citing an issue with the forward-facing front camera, and over 15,000 Model S and X vehicles for problems related to front-row seat belts.
What Happened: According to safety recall reports uploaded on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website, the front-facing camera might be misaligned on certain 2023 Model S, X, and Y vehicles, causing emergency braking, forward collision warnings, and lane assist to become unavailable without warning the driver. This could increase the risk of collisions in about 1,337 vehicles.
Regarding the seat belt issue, they might not be properly connected to the pretensioner anchors and may detach. This problem potentially affects 15,869 Model S and X vehicles from 2021 to 2023.
As for a fix, Tesla will inspect these vehicles and correct or replace the parts as necessary at no cost to the customers.
Why It Matters: According to the NHTSA website, Tesla has issued recalls for over 5 million vehicles to date. The number is below that of General Motors Co GM and Ford Motor Co F, each of which has recalled over 200 million vehicles to date. However, it’s important to note that GM and Ford have been manufacturing and selling vehicles for much longer than Tesla.
Price Action: Shares of Tesla were in reverse gear during Thursday’s premarket trading.
