EXCLUSIVE: Cathie Wood Says Bitcoin Is Key 2024 Election Issue For Young Voters

Zinger Key Points
  • Cathie Wood says Bitcoin is a 2024 election issue.
  • Several presidential candidates have shown support for Bitcoin.

The 2024 election will see candidates battle it out over numerous challenges like inflation, the economy, jobs, international relations, immigration, crime and social security.

One topic that is increasingly a political issue is cryptocurrency.

Ark Invest Founder Cathie Wood shared her thoughts on how cryptocurrency has become an important issue ahead of the 2024 election.

What Happened: In an exclusive interview on the "The Raz Report" with Benzinga CEO Jason Raznick that will air at 2 p.m. ET Wednesday, Wood tells viewers there should be more judicial clarity and legislative clarity over cryptocurrency in the next few years.

As the 2024 election draws nearer, Wood said cryptocurrency, specifically Bitcoin BTC/USD is becoming a bigger issue for voters.

“This is an election year issue,” Wood told Benzinga.

The Ark Invest founder said she knows some young people who have switched their political allegiance based on politicians like Sen. Elizabeth Warren leading an anti-cryptocurrency push.

Wood said some younger people she’s talked to have shifted from Democrat to Republican over cryptocurrency stances ‚ something she said politicians and parties should be watching.

“You can’t be on the wrong side of young people and win an election.”

Why It’s Important: Several candidates in the 2024 presidential election have spoken out in support of cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, a Republican candidate, has promised that he will defeat what he terms a "war" on Bitcoin by President Joe Biden if he is elected.

Presidential candidates like Robert Kennedy Jr. and Vivek Ramaswamy have spoken out in favor of the leading cryptocurrency, making comments on the future of Bitcoin and also using crypto for political donations.

Kennedy Jr. recently made headlines after buying 14 Bitcoin, 2 BTC for each of his seven children.

Miami Mayor Francis Suarez, often known as the “Bitcoin Mayor,” has said he would take a portion of his presidential salary in Bitcoin if elected. Suarez now receives a portion of his salary in Bitcoin.

Republican frontrunner Donald Trump has previously spoken out against Bitcoin, saying the value of the cryptocurrency was “based on thin air.” Trump went on to launch two non-fungible token collections and is a holder of Ethereum ETH/USD among his declared assets.

The first Republican primary debate failed to address Bitcoin as a topic, or cryptocurrency in general.
