The 2023 NFL season is nearing kickoff and will see the top two teams fight it out in February 2024 to be crowned Super Bowl champion.

Beginning on Thursday, Sept. 7, the NFL season will have teams play 17 games each with the goal of reaching the NFL playoffs and winning the Super Bowl.

While many of the NFL teams have won the Super Bowl or reached the big game, here’s a look at the teams that have never been to a Super Bowl and the teams that have never won a Super Bowl.

Super Bowl History: The first Super Bowl was played in 1967 with the Green Bay Packers beating the Kansas City Chiefs 35-10. The Packers have been to five Super Bowls, winning four of them since 1967, but will face the task of having a new starting quarterback for the 2023 season.

The first Super Bowl made history for many reasons, as it was one of several championship games to be played in the modern era that still included the AFL and NFL before a merger happened in 1970.

Super Bowl I was also the only Super Bowl to be aired on two broadcast stations with NBC and CBS both airing the game.

CBS, a unit of Paramount Global PARAPARAA, has the rights to Super Bowl LVIII in 2024 and will air the game on its broadcast station, its Peacock streaming platform and its Nickelodeon channel.

NBC, owned by Comcast Corporation CMCSA, will air the first game of the 2023 NFL season with a Thursday Night Football matchup between the Detroit Lions and Kansas City Chiefs. The station will also air Sunday Night Football matchups throughout the season.

Over the last 57 Super Bowls played, 20 of the current 32 teams in the NFL have won a title. Fifteen current NFL teams have won more than one Super Bowl.

The New England Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers have the most Super Bowl wins with six each. The Patriots hold the record for Super Bowl appearances with 11.

While the majority of the NFL teams have won a Super Bowl, there are some teams that haven’t, or in some cases haven’t even been to the big game.

Never Been to a Super Bowl: While 28 of the current 32 NFL teams have been to at least one Super Bowl, there are four teams that can’t claim that honor.

The Cleveland Browns, Detroit Lions, Houston Texans and Jacksonville Jaguars have never been to a Super Bowl.

The Jaguars and Texans are two of the newest teams in the league getting their start in the NFL in 1996 and 2002, respectively.

The Browns have been in the NFL for the majority of the Super Bowl era, from 1967 to 1995 and from 1999 to present. The team was relocated to Baltimore to become the Baltimore Ravens in 1995 and later was resurrected as a new team. Coincidentally, the Ravens went on to win Super Bowls in 2001 and 2013.

The Lions hold the unfortunate distinction of being the only team that has been operational every season since the Super Bowl began to never make it to the big game.

Here’s a look at the betting odds for the four teams to win the Super Bowl or at least reach the big game in the 2023 NFL season, with current odds from DraftKings Inc DKNG.

Cleveland Browns: Reach Super Bowl LVIII +2000, Win Super Bowl LVIII +3500

Detroit Lions: Reach Super Bowl LVIII +1100, Win Super Bowl LVIII +2200

Houston Texans: Reach Super Bowl LVIII +10,000, Win Super Bowl LVIII +20,000

Jacksonville Jaguars: Reach Super Bowl LVIII +1400, Win Super Bowl LVIII +3000

The Lions have the ninth-best odds to win the Super Bowl for the 2023 season and are also the favorites to win the NFC North division.

The Texans have the second-worst odds to win the Super Bowl to start the season.

Never Won a Super Bowl: While the four teams above are hoping to make history and finally get to the big game, there are eight other current NFL teams that have been but never won a Super Bowl.

The Buffalo Bills and Minnesota Vikings have each been to four Super Bowls without winning a title, posting 0-4 records in the big game. The Cincinnati Bengals are 0-3 in Super Bowl history. Other teams have only been to the big game one time and never made it back.

Here’s a look at the eight teams to never win a Super Bowl with their record in the big game and current sports betting odds to win Super Bowl LVIII:

Buffalo Bills (0-4): +900

Cincinnati Bengals (0-3): +1100

Minnesota Vikings (0-4): +3500

Atlanta Falcons (0-2): +6000

Los Angeles Chargers (0-1): +2500

Tennessee Titans (0-1): +8000

Arizona Cardinals (0-1): +40,000

Carolina Panthers (0-2): +8000

Several of the teams that have never won a Super Bowl rank among the favorites to start the season with the Bills, Bengals and Chargers ranked third, fifth and tenth, respectively.

The Cardinals are ranked last among teams for odds of winning Super Bowl LVIII.
