Netflix Inc (NASDAQ:NFLX) scored numerous 2025 Golden Globe nominations for its films and TV shows, underscoring the continued growth of streaming.
“Emilia Pérez,” the drug cartel musical acquired by the streamer out of the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year, received 10 nominations Monday.
Netflix's nomination for "Squid Game" in the Best Television Series – Drama category comes ahead of the highly anticipated second season set to premiere on the streaming platform on Dec. 26.
Netflix also received nods for "The Diplomat," "The Gentlemen," "Nobody Wants This," "Baby Reindeer," Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story," "Ripley" and "Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl."
Altogether, the Los Gatos, California-based company leads with 36 nominations — 13 in film categories and 23 in television.
"The Bear," which streams on Walt Disney Company‘s (NYSE:DIS) Hulu service, led the way for television with five nominations.
"Gladiator II" — released on the same day as “Wicked” — received nominations for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement and Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role (Denzel Washington).
One of last year's bigger battles was in the Cinematic and Box Office Achievement. Recall how "Barbie" competed with Taylor Swift‘s “Eras Tour” concert film. This year, both "Wicked" and "Gladiator II' will compete for the award.
Grande is up against fellow pop star Selena Gomez in the Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role for “Emilia Pérez.”
Other top nominated films include "The Brutalist" from A24 with seven nominations. A24 received 12 nominations in total.
"Conclave" from Focus Features received five nominations.
HBO/Max, which is owned by Warner Bros. Discovery (NASDAQ:WBD), received 14 nominations.
The 2025 Golden Globe Awards will air on CBS and stream on Paramount+, which are units of Paramount Global (NASDAQ:PARA)(NASDAQ:PARAA) on January 5.
Comedian Nikki Glaser will host the awards show. Actress Viola Davis is set to receive the Cecil B. Demille Award for her film career. Actor Ted Danson is set to receive the Carol Burnett Award for his television career.
