Did The Simpsons Predict Elon Musk Buying Twitter? This 2015 Episode May Have Been Prophetic

Zinger Key Points
  • Elon Musk voiced himself on a 2015 episode of The Simpsons.
  • The animated comedy has featured Tesla vehicles in past episodes and may have predicted Musk's 2022 acquisition.

Long-running animated comedy series The Simpsons has been known for its uncanny history of predicting things to happen before they become true. Did an episode of The Simpsons predict one of the largest 2022 acquisitions, years before it happened?

What Happened: Since 1989, “The Simpsons” has entertained fans with comedy and guest appearances from many celebrities. The show is now the longest-running animated comedy and continues to air on Fox, a unit of Fox Corp FOXFOXA.

Over the years, electric vehicle leader Tesla Inc TSLA has been one of the companies featured on episodes of The Simpsons. Past episodes have included the Tesla Roadster and Tesla Model X. A recent episode also featured the yet-to-be-released Tesla Cybertruck.

In 2015, Tesla CEO Elon Musk voiced himself in an episode titled “The Musk Who Fell To Earth.” The episode aired on Fox on Jan. 25, 2015 and was episode #564 in the series.

In the episode, Musk moves to Springfield and becomes friends with Homer Simpson. The two revolutionize the town’s nuclear power plant, much to the dismay of Simpson’s boss, Mr. Burns.

Mr. Burns tries to assassinate Musk in the episode, but instead nearly kills Homer, who is saved by Musk.

Musk explains that he can’t be friends with Homer anymore and must depart. Although, Musk goes back to the Simpsons home shortly after to return Lisa, who was hiding in Musk’s rocket.

Elon gifts the family a futuristic birdhouse that features the words “Home Tweet Home.”

The episode featured Musk arriving in town in a spacecraft that looks like a SpaceX Dragon capsule and also includes references to Hyperloop and self-driving vehicles.

Why It’s Important: Over the years, The Simpsons has been credited with predicting several real-life events including the launch of FaceTime, a bailout of Greece, the merger of Fox and Walt Disney Co DIS, autocorrect, FIFA corruption, the U.S. Men’s curling team winning a gold medal and even Donald Trump becoming president.

Tesla investors and fans will be hoping that the recent appearance of a Cybertruck on an episode of The Simpsons leads to the highly anticipated vehicle being released in real life.

Musk fans may have noticed another item from the episode in which he guest-starred. As mentioned above, the birdhouse gifted to the Simpsons family features the words “Home Tweet Home,” which could be a reference to social media platform Twitter.

Musk completed an acquisition of Twitter for $44 billion earlier this year.

The wording on the birdhouse was not lost on Musk, who recently said The Simpsons predicted the acquisition.
