What 'Game Of Thrones' Taught Us About Online Payments (Spoiler Alerts Ahead!)

If you are a "Game of Thrones" fan, you’ll definitely understand the importance of having a strategy to survive in this brutal world. OK, maybe there is a different type of brutality in Westeros, but you should undoubtedly know how to find your place and determine your business’s market position.

We strongly believe that there are hidden pieces of information about online payments in the "Game of Thrones" TV series. E-payments are our priory. They are also what we know, at least as much as Arya Stark knows her Needle. That’s still better than Jon Snow — he knows nothing. So, brace yourselves, a brand new approach to online payments is coming!

SPOILER ALERT! Turn back now if you haven’t watched all episodes yet.

Everyone seems to be telling you to watch "Game Of Thrones," and this same importance holds firmly with online payments on your website. What are the key lessons from "Game of Thrones" that can be transferred over to the business world?

Small Doesn't Mean Weak

Tyrion Lannister is a dwarf, and his unusual appearance is a trigger of abuse and mistreatment. Accused of murdering Joffrey Lannister and Jon Arryn, as well as attempting to murder Bran Stark, Tyrion has had more than his fair share of mistreatment. The irony is that he is not a dumb, unhelpful dwarf; he’s on the ball and builds his position by his intelligence and cleverness, helping him avoid death in many instances to become advisor to Daenerys Targaryen.

And what about Arya? As a lady, she is "supposed to" stay away from swords like her older sister, but she is stronger than anyone thinks. Through pure determination, her kill list is slowly but surely growing smaller. She also takes advantage of every opportunity she has to reach her goals. After Jaqen takes Arya's sight for breaking the rules of the Many-Faced God, she is forced to learn to blindly fight for her life. Arya uses this skill to cut the candle and murder The Waif in the dark after regaining her sight and fleeing the House of Black and White.

Also, Daenerys is a great example that anyone can rise to the top. Of course, she has her dragons, but at first, she was a humble orphan with an unstable brother and had to learn to turn tragedies into opportunities.

Maybe it’s better to give a chance to the provider who meets your needs best, not the one that is universally accepted.

Be Careful Who You Trust

It’s not always easy to see the future in the fire-some may never forgive Melisandre and Stannis Baratheon for burning Princess Shireen at the stake. Making rational and realistic plans and choices are important for your business. Don’t forget to diversify your risk.

Some decisions of the characters in "Game of Thrones" were emotion or revenge driven, not usually working out for the best. We all know how it worked out for Ollie after he stabbed Jon Snow right in the heart, a decision fueled by emotion and anger. When you think about payments, use your head and not your heart. There’s no room for emotional decisions here. Trusting the wrong providers can cost you your sales.

Let’s take a look at Cersei Lannister — she is smart and beautiful, but behind her appearance, she’s hiding her dark soul. She is power hungry and doesn’t care for anything besides her family name and power. Be careful when you choose the payment solution; look for the one with the excellent customer support that cares about you and not themselves.

Moreover, choose the payment gateway with anti-fraud tools and with PCI level 1. Also, keep in mind that the cheapest is not the same as the best, and check the provider carefully. You need to look out for early warning signs to get your business in a better shape.

Also make sure to avoid black magic, which comes as chargebacks… Yes. That's the thing you need to avoid.

Just Be Sure What's Behind

You need to be sure what’s behind when you’re making the decision about payment solution for your website. Thus, choose the provider who knows what transparency is and doesn’t hide anything.

Have your best interests in mind when finding the payment gateway you trust. Make sure that there are no hidden or extra fees, and that it provides the highest security level for you and your customers.

Remember: When you choose the payment gateway, find the one that is more like a Jon Snow and less like Joffrey.

Before the Battle of the Bastards, Sansa probably should have told Jon that the Knights of the Vale were coming to the rescue. That would have given him a chance to modify his strategies and most likely could have saved a lot of lives (maybe even Rickon's). But she didn’t.

What we don’t know is what usually gets us killed!

And now, think about the Red Priestess, Melisandre. You know how one of the hottest women really looks like without her necklace? Yeah, that part. There were some hints about that in season two, but did you watch it closely?

Speak The Local Language

Daenerys is an excellent example of how learning the local language can help you improve your situation. It is especially useful for your business when you run your online store globally. Get the chance and choose the payment gateway with checkout translated into many languages to provide customers a truly local experience.

Speaking of Daenerys, the Mother of Dragons…the dragons exist in real life.

OK, maybe not the same fire-breathing beasts we know from "Game of Thrones," but basically something worse and more dangerous: FRAUD. Make sure you don’t wake the dragons and find the payment provider with highly effective anti-fraud tools. Find the tools that want to protect you as much as Brienne of Tarth wants to protect Arya and Sansa Stark.

Fraud may not be as dire as dragon fire, but be aware of it (unless you are a Daenerys). But still, you need the payment gateway that holds the door for you the same way that Hodor holds the door for Bran (deep breath, try not to cry).

Learn From Your Mistakes

Finally, we get to Jaime Lannister. He is a great example that it’s never too late to learn from your mistakes and experiences. He pushed Bran Stark out a window in cold blood, but he changes after being Cat Stark's tortured prisoner.

You don’t need to be tortured (extra fees and fraud) to change payment providers when things go sour. Thus, learn from your experience and choose the next provider carefully.

When you play the game of thrones, you win, or you die. But when you have a strong plan and choose your online payment provider carefully, you’re going to be in a winning position. You may even be more satisfied than when you saw this:
