Donald Trump&#8217;s <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/24/05/38584504/trump-could-face-more-gag-orders-in-hush-money-trial-report">New York hush-money case</a> and the U.S. Supreme Court&#8217;s hearing on his presidential immunity have been front and center in recent days, even as the former president is in a close race with President Joe Biden to occupy the White House for a second term. Mary Trump, a clinical psychologist and the niece of the former president weighed in on the case, in an interview on Thursday.
What Happened: Donald Trump&#8217;s two faces were evident amid the trial proceedings last week, <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3RI4mr-wIKw">said </a>Mary Trump in an MSNBC interview. 
&#8220;Last week we heard a lot about the split-screen Donald Trump, criminal defendant in a New York City criminal courtroom and then the Supreme Court hearing arguments about whether or not Donald should be immune from any kind of prosecution because apparently members of the Supreme Court think he is a monarch or something,&#8221; she said.
The more crucial concern people should be vigilant about is the split screen of him being the presidential candidate and an &#8220;anti-American authoritarian wannabe,&#8221; she added.
&#8220;The problem is we are seeing these as being treated as two entirely different people,&#8221; Mary Trump said, adding that &#8220;it&#8217;s a the fact that he is a criminal defendant, the fact that he has committed allegedly crimes against the United States of America, have no impact whatsoever on his relevance or his standing as a candidate for the presidency.&#8221;
This is because &#8220;there&#8217;s always a way out for him. There&#8217;s always somebody willing to bail him out even if it looks like there&#8217;s no escape,&#8221; she said. This was seen last week, she added. 
The psychologist, podcaster and author also said she has one particular concern. 
&#8220;As deep the trouble is that he is in, it may not be enough,&#8221; she said.
Mary Trump said her uncle&#8217;s personality is such that he is incredibly good at &#8220;pushing the envelope and pulling back in those rare instances in which he gets pushed back.&#8221; 
&#8220;When he pushes the envelope, he breaks norms, he defies expectations and he gets away with it. Being who he is, he pushes the envelope some more to see what else he can get away with,&#8221; she said.
It is in those instances Donald Trump normalizes outrageous and egregious behavior, she added.

Mary Trump also said it is the duty of the press to step up. She emphasized that her uncle explicitly stated his intentions to become an authoritarian, strip away women&#8217;s rights, and say whatever he needs to regain power.
&#8220;Once that happens, he will not be stopped,&#8221; she said. 
Mary Trump advised that for those running against Donald Trump, he should be consistently ridiculed. She observed this approach in the courtroom, noting his difficulty in handling the circumstances and his lack of power in that environment.
Mary Trump also asserted that her uncle was selfish and unconcerned about the other individuals trapped in the courtroom with him due to his actions.
More Setbacks: Mary Trump noted that, for the nine instances of gag order violations in the first week of the hush-money trial, Donald Trump was fined $9,000 and warned of imprisonment for any further violations. Prosecutors have submitted four more violations since then, she added.
Mary Trump mentioned that Acting Supreme Court Justice Juan Merchan might not yet jail the former president for these four violations, as they occurred before Donald Trump was held in contempt. However, she did not rule out the possibility of incarceration if another violation occurs.
She also highlighted rumors about Donald Trump&#8217;s legal team representing his presidential campaign for a 2016 incident wanting to drop him as a client.
&#8220;The law firm, LaRocca, Hornik, Greenberg, Kittredge, Carlin &amp; McPartland, cited an &#8216;irreparable breakdown in the attorney-client relationship&#8217; as the reason for their request to withdraw,&#8221; Mary Trump said.
Last week, Los Angeles attorney <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/24/05/38604557/trumps-hush-money-trial-lawyer-who-represented-stormy-daniels-reveals-payment-details-reads-out-fund">Keith Davidson took the stand again</a> to discuss the deal he had brokered between the plaintiff Stormy Daniels and Donald Trump&#8217;s ex-attorney Michael Cohen to keep Donald Trump's affair with Daniels a secret from voters, she further noted.

Trump's Niece Says Ex-President Has Made It Clear He Wants To Be Authoritarian Upon Returning To Office: 'Once That Happens, He Will Not Be Stopped'

Tuesday's news that the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cannabis/24/04/38530190/breaking-dea-reportedly-moves-to-reschedule-cannabis-stocks-rise-sharply-on-the-news">DEA will move to reclassify marijuana</a> as a less dangerous drug after five decades of being in the same classification as heroin, meth and LSD has roiled some Republican opponents. One in particular, Tennessee&#8217;s Bill Hagerty, sees the move as opening the door to social decay, or worse.
Hagerty accused the Democrats of pursuing policies that are pro-criminal and anti-American, warning that such measures would only serve to exacerbate crime rates on American streets.
Lambasting the Democrats' efforts to undertake marijuana policy reform, Hagerty singled out Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer.
"What the Joe Biden administration — what Leader Schumer — is trying to do is basically stimulate more crime on American streets," Hagerty said. "Here we have Chuck Schumer basically lowering the barriers for gateway drugs like marijuana, and it's going to damage society, and this is exactly what Democrats have been pushing. This is not good for America."
In a hallway interview on Thursday, Fox News reporter Tyler Olson asked Hagerty about the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/secure-and-fair-enforcement-safe-banking-act">Secure and Fair Enforcement Regulation (SAFER) Banking Act</a>, which is designed to shield financial institutions that deal with state-licensed marijuana businesses. Hagerty, a member of the Senate Banking and Foreign Relations Committees, dismissed banking reform as enabling a conducive environment for more drug usage in America, saying the U.S. needs to curb rather than encourage drug consumption.
Hagerty then went back to criticizing the Democrats&#8217; motives behind the push for cannabis legalization, which he branded as completely political and geared towards garnering support from a niche demographic ahead of the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/2024-election">November 2024 elections</a>, rather than addressing broader concerns facing the country.
"If you look at American sentiment, everyone says that America is moving in the wrong direction. But what they're [the Democrats] trying to do is pick off minor issues like this, encouraging drug abuse, frankly. It's obscene that this would be happening," he said.
Hagerty then took another shot at Schumer. "But this is Chuck Schumer's perspective on basically putting another sliver of the Biden fragmented population together to vote for him. It's a shame. Democrats are willing to do anything to maintain power here in Washington."
Despite the increasing trend of states — even traditionally conservative ones like <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/montana-cannabis">Montana</a> — moving towards marijuana legalization, Hagerty has remained steadfast in his opposition. He adamantly rejected the notion of establishing any regulatory framework that would facilitate what he viewed as a harmful culture of drug abuse.

Paring Equity Bets: Berkshire&#8217;s equity securities investment dropped from $353.84 billion in Q1 2023 to $335.86 billion in Q1 2024. Sector-wise, the firm reduced its exposure to banks, insurance and finance as well as consumer products, while upping its stakes in commercial, industrial and other stocks.
The proportion of money invested in Berkshire&#8217;s five core holdings, namely Apple, Bank of America Corp. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BAC#NYSE">BAC</a>), American Express Co. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AXP#NYSE">AXP</a>), Coca-Cola Co. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/KO#NYSE">KO</a>) and Chevron Corp. The Apple Math: Apple shares have underperformed this year, shedding 4.63% for the year-to-date period and 10.82% for the first quarter. The decline came amid fears that the company&#8217;s fundamentals would deteriorate amid slow uptake of iPhones in its key China market and elsewhere.
Apple met modest expectations in the March quarter but reported a decline in revenue and earnings compared to the previous year. The company issued a June quarter forecast that was not as worse as feared. That said, investors are still skeptical as the company has not been very proactive with product improvements. Analysts have hinged hopes of a rebound on the launch of the AI-enabled iPhone 16 later this year and the company&#8217;s late entry into the AI arena.
Berkshire&#8217;s $135.4 billion Apple stake in the first quarter suggests the firm may have held 744.65 million shares at the end of the first quarter. The calculation is based on Apple&#8217;s average first-quarter stock price of $181.83. This is a 17.71% reduction from the 904.87 million Apple shares it held at the end of the fourth quarter.
The precise number of Apple shares Berkshire holds will be known when the firm files its 13F report for the first quarter with the SEC.
This marked the second straight quarter that the firm has cut its Apple stake. In the fourth quarter, <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/equities/24/02/37151071/warren-buffetts-apple-appetite-waning-berkshire-trims-top-holding-ditches-big-homebuilder-bulks-">the firm lightened its Apple stake by 10 million shares.</a>
Apple ended Friday&#8217;s session up 5.98% at $183.38, according to <a href="https://benzinga.grsm.io/lxquj26b2sag">Benzinga Pro data. </a>Berkshire&#8217;s Class A shares fell 0.56% to $603,000.

Warren Buffett's Confidence In Apple Wanes? Berkshire Cuts Stake By 18% Amid Tech Giant's Troubles.

Skimping Costs: Starting off his <a href="https://www.berkshirehathaway.com/message.html">message</a> with a warning that he doesn&#8217;t make stock recommendations, Buffett said consumers can rely on the services of two of Berkshire Hathaway, Inc.&#8217;s (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BRK#NYSE">BRK</a>) (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BRK#NYSE">BRK</a>) subsidiary companies GEICO and Borsheim&#8217;s.
&#8220;I have two thoughts regarding your personal expenditures that can save you real money,&#8221; he said.
About 40% of the auto drivers in the U.S. can save money by insuring with GEICO, Buffett said. The figure is not 100% because insurers differ in their underwriting judgments, with &#8220;some favoring drivers who live in certain geographical areas and work in certain occupations more than GEICO does,&#8221; he said.
The billionaire added that GEICO mostly offers &#8220;the low price than does any other national carrier selling insurance to all comers.&#8221; 
Buffett additionally recommended luxury jeweler Borsheims. 
&#8220;Fine jewelry, watches and giftware will almost certainly cost you less at [Borsheims],&#8221; he said. 
&#8220;Our one-store operation, with its huge volume, enables us to operate with costs that are fully 15-20 percentage points below those incurred by our competitors. We pass the benefits of this low-cost structure along to our customers,&#8221; Buffett said.

Why It&#8217;s Important: Buffett&#8217;s recommendation, though self-promotional, may come in handy for cash-strapped consumers, who are <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/equities/24/04/38228298/market-turmoil-resumes-as-inflation-rises-more-than-expected-oil-prices-spike-gold-at-record-hig">struggling in an inflationary environment.</a> Consumer price inflation has remained elevated despite the cooling off seen since the June 2022 peak.
Consumers, who fuel two-thirds of the economic activity, are also left to contend with job cuts as companies restructure and right-size in a bid to survive in an inclement economic environment.
So far, spending has held up despite the uncertainties as consumers dip back into their savings and live on credit.
The SPDR S&amp;P Retail ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/XRT#NYSE">XRT</a>) rose 1.28% to $73.42 on Friday, according to <a href="https://benzinga.grsm.io/lxquj26b2sag">Benzinga Pro data.</a>

Kevin O&#8217;Leary, the venture capitalist famous for his role on ABC's Shark Tank, believes that students <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/24/04/38446778/students-demand-universities-sell-off-israel-related-stocks-hundreds-arrested-in-nationwide-protests">protesting against Israel over </a>its attacks on Palestine are ruining their job prospects. 
What Happened: While student protests date back a hundred years, the protests in the 60s and 70s were documented on film and had poor resolution unlike now when all footage is shot in 1080p or 4k resolution, O&#8217;Leary said. 
&#8220;We see you now. All you need is to have your eyes exposed&#8230;and for the rest of your life, you&#8217;re in this pile!&#8221;
These images will be identified by the artificial intelligence employed by employers during their background check, leaving them unemployed, he said. For every person whose picture of burning a flag turns up, employers can find another with a clear record, he added. 
&#8220;These people are screwed,&#8221; O&#8217;Leary said on Fox News&#8216; &#8216;The Five&#8217; chat show on Wednesday.

Leary said in another interview this week that he would continue to hire from universities like UCLA and Columbia where protests are taking place, but these would be on an individual basis, he clarified. 
Why It Matters: As per an Associated Press <a href="https://apnews.com/article/israel-palestinian-campus-student-protests-war-df5f7cf1547a3ca8fb959b992d6ebe1b">report</a>, there have been over 2,400 arrests across 46 campuses in the U.S. since April 17 <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/government/24/05/38559867/protests-at-ucla-columbia-and-other-campuses-turn-violent-as-israel-negotiates-truce-terms-with-hama">over anti-war protests.</a> Pro-palestinian students are protesting Israel&#8217;s attacks on Gaza after Oct. 7 when Hamas militants killed about 1200 people in an attack on southern Israel. Since then, however, Israel has killed over 34,000 Palestinians, as per Gaza health authorities. 
Earlier, Tom Gimbel, Founder and CEO of&nbsp;LaSalle Network, shared his concerns on CNBC's Last Call about the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/24/04/38520941/ivy-league-grads-no-longer-the-apple-of-recruiters-eyes-amid-anti-israel-protests-they-are-going-to">increasing discomfort among recruiters</a> due to the anti-Israel protests at Columbia University. Gimbel explained that while earlier recruiters were determined to recruit and interview only Ivy League graduates, historically considered the "smartest," the trend might be changing. Buffett still lives in his Omaha house that he bought for $31,500 in 1958. The 66-year-old 6,570-square-foot home has five bedrooms and is protected by a fence and security cameras.

Days after Tesla Inc. <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/24/04/38480139/teslas-cybertruck-finally-getting-its-promised-off-roading-features-watch-it-getting-tested-for-rock">released a software update</a> to make its Cybertruck frunk safer, a YouTuber tested it, only to have his finger painfully trapped. 
What Happened: Earlier this week, Tesla rolled out a new software update for its Cybertrucks. The update was aimed at improving the frunk&#8217;s sensing so it wouldn&#8217;t close on soft objects. 
YouTuber Jeremy Judkins tested it on a video shared on YouTube on May 2. Following the update, Judkins noted that the frunk did not close in on a banana or a zucchini. However, it did snap off the thin tip of a carrot. 
After his experiment with vegetables and fruits, Judkins went on to experiment with this hand. While the frunk did not close on his arm or his hand, it did close on his finger. However, upon detecting resistance, the frunk opened, leaving the finger free but shivering.

Tesla Executive Reacts: <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/24/05/38628243/elon-musk-impressed-by-tesla-cybertrucks-world-war-2-inspired-wrap-cool">Cybertruck lead engineer</a> Wes Morrill noted that the incident happened because the YouTuber tried to close the frunk repeatedly, making the algorithm assume that he was trying to close the frunk. 
&#8220;Imagine there is a big bag inside the frunk it might also trigger the pinch detection. Then you might try closing it again, and again&#8230; exactly as you are doing in this video. The algorithm assumes that if you are repeatedly trying to close the frunk it&#8217;s because you, as the human in loop know better and believe it should close,&#8221; Morrill wrote. 
The algorithm will be reset once the frunk is closed without anything in the way.

'Do Not Put Your Finger In...': YouTuber Experiments With Tesla Cybertruck Frunk Sensing Capabilities

Apple Inc.'s (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AAPL#NASDAQ">AAPL</a>) <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/analyst-ratings/analyst-color/24/04/38362506/apples-next-big-leap-how-ai-software-and-wwdc-announcements-could-fuel-growth">highly-anticipated AI strategy</a>, set to be announced at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June, has Wedbush's Dan Ives excited.
What Happened: Ives thinks that the "AI revolution" is headed for Cupertino next, given that it is the only company in the "Mag 7" that hasn't had any major AI announcement yet.
In an interview with CNBC, Ives said, "Next six to nine months, it's going to be an AI-driven super cycle with iPhone 16."
Ives implies that Apple's upcoming AI features will entice users to upgrade to newer iPhones. "Look at China – 230 million iPhones, yet 70% of them have not upgraded in the last three years."

Apple reported an 8.1% decline in iPhone sales in Greater China – this includes mainland China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan – far better than <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/analyst-ratings/analyst-color/24/04/38381758/jim-cramer-weighs-in-after-iphone-sales-reportedly-plummet-19-in-china-in-q1-anothe">analyst predictions</a> of up to a 19.1% fall.
Ives explains that this could be due to a pickup in iPhone sales in March and that it bodes well for Apple over the next six to nine months. He expects Apple to register a growth in iPhone sales in China in the September quarter.
"When you look at the next six, nine, twelve months, that renaissance of growth is coming back to Cupertino, combined with the AI story."

Echoing similar sentiments as Ives, Tesla Inc. investor Ross Gerber thinks that Apple's AI announcements will <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/24/05/38610873/despite-tim-cooks-scant-details-about-iphone-ai-tesla-investor-ross-gerber-thinks-it-will-trigger-wh">lead to an upgrade cycle</a> for the company.

The 12Cilindri from Ferrari was unveiled to the public on Thursday at Miami Beach. The vehicle, Ferrari says, is inspired by Grand Tourers of the 1950s and &#8217;60s and starts at a whopping €395,000 ($425,553). The vehicle offers a max power of 818 hp, can go from 0-100km/h (0-62 mph) in 2.9 seconds, and has a maximum speed of over 340km/h (211mph). 
In comparison, the Model 3 Performance has a top speed of 163 mph, can go from 0-60 mph in 2.9 seconds, and can enable over 500 hp on an electric powertrain. Model 3 Performance, however, starts at just $53,990 without including an EV tax credit of $7,500. 
The New Model 3 Performance: In January, Tesla introduced the&nbsp;<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/24/01/36570546/you-can-finally-order-teslas-new-model-3-in-america-heres-its-starting-price" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">updated Model 3</a>&nbsp;in the U.S., initially offering two variants: rear-wheel drive and long-range. The Performance variant was conspicuously absent from the listings. However, a company executive affirmed its forthcoming availability.
Tesla launched its new Model 3 Performance in the U.S. last month. While it was priced at $52,990 at the time of launch, it is now priced at $53,990 after a<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/24/04/38474737/tesla-increases-price-of-model-3-performance-by-1k-in-us-days-after-launch"> price hike of $1000.</a>

'Model 3 Performance Is Awesome,' Says Elon Musk To Comparison Between Tesla EV Sedan And Ferrari 12Cilindri

EV giant Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TSLA#NASDAQ">TSLA</a>) has launched a new long-range rear-wheel drive (RWD) version of its <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/24/01/36840882/its-official-teslas-model-y-rewrites-history-as-first-ev-to-top-global-car-sales-just-as-musk-predic">best-selling Model Y SUV </a>in the U.S.
What Happened: The new Long Range RWD version has an estimated range of 320 miles, a top speed of 135 mph, and can go from 0-60 mph in 6.5 seconds. It starts at $44,990, the same starting price as the rear-wheel drive version of the vehicle it has replaced on the website. 
The replaced RWD variant had a range of just 260 miles. 
Tesla CEO Elon Musk took to social media platform X to state that the older RWD vehicles built by the company over the past several months can get more range for an additional $1500 to $2000 depending on the battery cells employed. This would add 40 to 60 miles of range to the car, he said, while adding that the company is working through regulatory approvals to enable it.

Tesla Launches Model Y RWD Variant That Can Go Upto 320 Miles On A Single Charge: Elon Musk Promises More Range On Discontinued Variant For Additional $1500 To $2000

Jeff Bezos, the founder of&nbsp;Amazon.com Inc.&nbsp;(NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AMZN#NASDAQ">AMZN</a>), faced intense&nbsp;questioning by the Federal Trade Commission or FTC over his <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/24/04/38451439/jeff-bezos-and-amazon-ceo-andy-jassy-accused-of-deleting-chats-amid-antitrust-probe-the-ftcs-content">alleged use of&nbsp;the encrypted messaging</a> app Signal&nbsp;and its auto-delete feature.

&#8220;I don&#8217;t know exactly when I stopped using it,&#8221; Bezos said, according to the transcript. &#8220;But I tried very hard to be careful not to use it, to preserve messages and only use disappearing messages on things that were not, you know, responsive to these document preservation requests.&#8221;

The Amazon founder admitted to receiving a document-preservation notice regarding the FTC&#8217;s investigation but refrained from confirming whether Signal messages were included in the notice. He also stated that he couldn&#8217;t recall the precise timing of receiving the notice or the legal advice from Amazon&#8217;s lawyers regarding Signal (&#8220;a year-ish ago maybe,&#8221; he said).
&#8220;I may have made mistakes in that regard from time to time,&#8221; Bezos said. &#8220;I never would have used Signal under any circumstances with disappearing messages on or off to discuss any complicated business issues. It just doesn&#8217;t make sense.&#8221;
The FTC lawyer highlighted that despite receiving legal advice on document preservation in both 2020 and 2021, Bezos continued to use Signal&#8217;s disappearing messaging feature until 2022.
In response, Bezos stated that he wouldn&#8217;t have taken such action, emphasizing his adherence to the guidance of legal counsel as long as he comprehends it. &#8220;I&#8217;m human. FTC Grills Jeff Bezos Over Use Of Signal's Auto-Delete Feature Amid Amazon's Antitrust Suit: 'I Can Make A Mistake'

A 27-year-old Rogelio Villarreal has seemingly procured a pair of $14,000<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/money/how-to-invest-in-jewelry"> Cartier earrings</a> for his mother for merely $14, thanks to a listing error on the company website. 
What Happened: Villarreal, a surgery resident from Mexico, stumbled upon an Instagram ad for Cartier in December. Among the high-priced items, he noticed a pair of 18-carat rose-gold earrings with diamonds, listed for 237 Mexican pesos ($14). He purchased two pairs for his mother, as <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2024/04/26/world/americas/mexico-cartier-sale-consumer-protection.html">reported</a> by The New York Times. 
After the purchase, the price for the earrings was adjusted on the Cartier website to 237,000 pesos, equivalent to about $14,000, sparking a months-long dispute between Villarreal and Cartier, which gained attention on social media and even drew the interest of a Mexican senator.

In late April, Cartier reached out to Villarreal saying that his order would indeed be delivered.
