Digging deep into the modus operandi, the on-chain sleuth showed how users are duped into clicking a popup that promises to transfer USDT (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/">USDT</a>) to their wallets. However, these were nothing but phishing links that ended up emptying their wallets of TON tokens.
Similar findings were reported by cybersecurity firm <a href="https://www.kaspersky.co.in/blog/toncoin-cryptocurrency-scam/27342/">Kaspersky</a>, which unearthed a sophisticated phishing operation active since November 2023 that targeted TON holders.&nbsp;

According to a report by <a href="https://insights.santiment.net/read/toncoin-growing-a-ton-compared-to-all-other-top-cap-assets-7790?_wc=1">Santiment </a>last week, Toncoin witnessed the fastest network growth among leading cryptocurrencies over the last six months.&nbsp;&nbsp;
The growth was fueled by social messaging giant <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cryptocurrency/24/04/38278312/ton-foundation-attributes-toncoin-growth-to-increasing-integration-within-telegram">Telegram's public support</a> for the project, and its growing utility within the Telegram ecosystem.&nbsp;
However, as the network grows in strength, and valuation increases, it would attract the predatory gazes of scammers and phishers, who don't need any second invitation to jump on money-making opportunities.&nbsp;
Scam Sniffer reported losses of nearly $300 million due to crypto phishing scams in 2023, and $173 million already as of March.&nbsp;
Price Action: At the time of writing, TON was exchanging hands at $6.58, marking double-digit gains of 11% in the last 24 hours.

'Does Seem Hypocritical:' Musk Calls Out Sam Altman's OpenAI For Slapping Copyright Complaint On Reddit Forum Using ChatGPT Maker's Logo

Nikki Haley, the former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, is set to meet her top donors next week. Despite this, she does not have immediate plans to endorse former President Donald Trump for the 2024 election.
What Happened: Haley, who recently withdrew from the Republican presidential race, is scheduled to meet around 100 of her biggest donors in Charleston, South Carolina, on Monday and Tuesday, <a href="https://www.wsj.com/politics/elections/nikki-haley-is-huddling-with-donors-and-wont-endorse-donald-trump-yet-052d3d0f?mod=latest_headlines">reported</a> The Wall Street Journal, citing a person close to Haley on Thursday.
The meetings will not include discussions about her political future or any encouragement for donors to contribute to other campaigns.
There are no immediate plans for Haley to endorse Trump, her former rival and the presumptive Republican nominee. The two have not communicated since Haley exited the race in March.
Despite this, some of Haley&#8217;s supporters are hoping for her to run for president in 2028. Eric Tanenblatt, a long-time GOP fundraiser and strategist, believes that Haley could secure the nomination with a second run, given her ability to build a coalition of Republicans, independents, and conservative Democrats.
However, Tanenblatt also suggested that Haley could endorse Trump if he makes a greater effort to reach out to her and her supporters. 
"It's now up to President Trump to unite the Republican Party by demonstrating to Nikki supporters that they have a place under the tent," he said.
Karoline Leavitt, a spokesperson for the Trump campaign, stated that the party has united around Trump and declined to comment on whether Trump has spoken to Haley since she left the race.
"President Trump is building a historic and unified political movement to make America great again," Leavitt said.

China's Top Chipmaker SMIC Sees Profit Margin Plummet To 15-Year Low Amid US Export Controls

Former President Donald Trump has reportedly asked oil industry executives to contribute $1 billion to his campaign for the White House. This request, while controversial, is likely legal, according to industry experts.
What Happened: Trump made this request during a meeting with industry executives at his Palm Beach, Florida home last month, Politico <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2024/05/09/trump-asks-oil-executives-campaign-finance-00157131">reported</a>, citing three people familiar with the conversation. 
The executives present represented companies like Exxon Mobil (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/XOM#NYSE">XOM</a>), Chevron (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CVX#NYSE">CVX</a>), ConocoPhillips (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/COP#NYSE">COP</a>), Continental Resources, EQT (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/EQT#NYSE">EQT</a>), and Cheniere Energy (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/LNG#NYSE">LNG</a>), as well as the American Petroleum Institute, as per the report.
Trump&#8217;s request is seen as a reflection of the issues with the current campaign finance laws, according to Erin Chlopak, senior campaign finance director at the watchdog group Campaign Legal Center. 
Although the request is seen as &#8220;shocking,&#8221; it is unlikely to violate bribery laws as currently interpreted by the Supreme Court, as per Meredith McGehee, an independent expert on government ethics and campaign finance.
"The state of the law and the state of the enforcement agency is abysmal," McGehee said in an interview. "But this is a scandal, and the notion that our government works where candidates go to industry and promise government action in exchange for large amounts of money is an indictment of the system."

Stock markets saw an uptick during the day following higher-than-expected U.S. jobless claims data. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose for the seventh consecutive day, up 0.85% to close at 39,387.76 points. The S&amp;P 500 gained 0.51% to end at 5,214.08, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite added 0.27% to finish at 16,346.26.
New data revealed initial claims for unemployment benefits at 231,000 for the week ending May 4, higher than the&nbsp;market's&nbsp;estimate and the highest since late August 2023.

Analyst Notes:&nbsp;Rekt Capital, a prominent cryptocurrency analyst and trader, described&nbsp;Bitcoin&#8217;s&nbsp;current decline as the deepest, at 23.6%, surpassing the 22.9% retrace from early 2023.
The analyst also noted that this was one of the longest pullbacks in the cycle, with the corrective phase lasting nearly 50 days.

On-chain analytics firm Santiment observed that sentiment toward leading coins in the market was still negative.
The mood dramatically shifted since&nbsp;Bitcoin's&nbsp;latest halving, the firm added, before which an overtly&nbsp;"Greed"&nbsp;vibe dominated the market.
