The Disney Analyst: Macquarie analyst Tim Nollen retained a Neutral rating on Disney and lowered the price target from $94 to $91.

"For as much change as Disney has been through in the past few years, there is even more change ahead," Nollen said.
In the new investor note, the analyst focuses mainly on sports and streaming, noting that accelerated cord-cutting could come alongside the launch of the ESPN direct-to-consumer platform in August 2025.
"We estimate industry underlying year-over-year sub declines of 8.5% currently could roughly double by 2027. ESPN DTC will likely cause this, and to offset the impact will have to add 14 million subs at a $25 ARPU by FY27, on our calculations."
The key question for the analyst is whether Disney can attract new subscribers to ESPN DTC, or if it will primarily be cord-cutters, shifting from paying affiliate fees for ESPN to the new platform.
Positives for Disney's sports segment include the new National Basketball Association rights deal and the expansion of the NCAA Football playoffs, Nollen said.
Nollen said Disney "appears to have scored a good deal" on the new NBA rights with a 73% increase in average annual price while adding international rights and streaming on the new ESPN DTC platform.
"The roll-on of the new college football playoff expansion this coming Dec 2024-Jan 2025. We estimate this brings in additional $175m of revenue in FY25 and $400m in FY26, with modest operating losses on the new $1.43bn annual contract starting FY27."
"We believe Disney is leading the way amongst media peers in transitioning to streaming, and will be successful over the long run. However, there is a lot of change and uncertainty ahead."
DIS Price Action: Disney stock is up 1% to $94.52 on Thursday, versus a 52-week trading range of $78.73 to $123.74. Disney shares are up 4% year-to-date in 2024.

With Lubetzky as part of the regular list of panelists, it adds a billionaire who Forbes estimates his wealth at $2.3 billion. Cuban has a net worth of $5.7 billion according to Forbes.
Lubetzky <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/m-a/20/11/18428174/a-look-at-mars-latest-acquisition-kind-bars">sold Kind Snacks </a>to Mars in 2020. He now runs the investment company Camino Partners.

Amazon Vs. Disney: The E-Commerce Titan Takes On Mickey In Streaming Wars

Disney and DirecTV reached a deal over the weekend to restore service to the Mouse House's "entire portfolio of networks," including ESPN and ABC as the college and pro football seasons kick into high gear.
The agreement follows <a href="https://nypost.com/2024/08/28/media/disneys-directv-carriage-dispute-could-be-disastrous-for-football-fans/">a two-week blackout of Disney-owned networks</a> for DirecTV that had extended through the US Open, a range of college football games, the season premiere of "Monday Night Football," and the presidential debate between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Trump, which was hosted by ABC.
DirecTV's 11 million subscribers had had no access to Disney-owned channels since Sept. 1 when licensing renewal talks collapsed, kicking off a two-week standoff between the companies.
&nbsp;
At issue was the ability for DirecTV customers to have more flexibility in the channels that are part of its package with Disney. The company argued that streaming companies allow for such flexibility.
Most contracts have required pay TV distributors to charge subscribers for all of a company's channels whether they want them or not. For instance, DirecTV subscribers may watch Disney-owned ESPN and ESPN 2 but not the Disney Junior channel and FX.
&nbsp;
In the new deal, customers with the satellite provider can now choose more genre-specific packages like sports or family programming to better compete with streaming offerings. DirecTV customers can also add Disney+, Hulu and ESPN+, Disney's streaming services, to packages.&nbsp;
"Through this first-of-its-kind collaboration, DirecTV and Disney are giving customers the ability to tailor their video experience through more flexible options," the companies said in a joint statement on Saturday.

During the company's earnings call, DirecTV chief marketing officer Vince Torres said on Thursday that the two-week blackout had made his company lose customers, but he did not specify the number, he said the<a href="https://deadline.com/2024/09/directv-customer-defections-disney-distribution-battle-1236085991/"> defections were "not immaterial."</a>
The pullback comes as DirecTV has hemorrhage subscribers in recent years as customers opt to cut their cable packages in favor of streaming.

FuboTV Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/FUBO#NYSE">FUBO</a>) shares are trading slightly lower on Friday.
The company&#8217;s lawsuit against Fox Corporation, Warner Bros. Discovery, Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/WBD#NASDAQ">WBD</a>), and Walt Disney Company (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/DIS#NYSE">DIS</a>) regarding their plans to launch a new <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com//node/40541970" rel="noreferrer noopener">sports-streaming service is reportedly set to go to trial next fall.</a>
This could potentially delay the planned launch before the upcoming football season, <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2024-09-12/fubotv-suit-against-disney-fox-warner-gets-october-2025-trial?srnd=phx-technology&amp;sref=TBDibEcD" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">reported </a>Bloomberg. U.S. District Judge Margaret Garnett scheduled the trial to begin on October 6, 2025.
Last month, Garnett granted a preliminary injunction that halted the $42.99-a-month service, Venu Sports, from advancing while the lawsuit is ongoing.

The media giants had intended to launch Venu on August 23, ahead of the college and pro football seasons. The report highlighted that this timing suggests that, even if the three companies win the case, Venu will probably miss the early games. Garnett stated she anticipates the trial will take between three to four weeks.
Fubo, a smaller sports streaming service, filed a lawsuit in February, alleging that the larger media companies are using their control over major sports rights to unfairly dominate their competitors.
The Bloomberg report further noted that the lawsuit is part of a larger series of legal disputes over the valuable rights to sports events as viewers shift away from cable television in favor of streaming services.
Fox, Warner, and Disney contend that Venu wouldn&#8217;t harm competition, as they still need to negotiate rights individually and compete for viewers across different platforms, per the report.
The Justice Department is also set to investigate the Venu deal due to concerns that it might negatively impact consumers and reduce competition between media rivals and sports leagues, Bloomberg added.
According to&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://pro.benzinga.com/?gspk=YWRhbWVja2VydDUzMzY&amp;gsxid=zBMR4PKmcgBw" rel="noreferrer noopener">Benzinga Pro</a>, FUBO stock has lost over 29% in the past year. FuboTV's Lawsuit Against Disney, Fox, And Warner Scheduled For October 2025 Trial: Report

As the presidential debate on Sept. 10 between Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris was likely the last between the two candidates, voters are turning their attention to a debate between the presidential candidates&#8217; running mates ahead of the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/2024-election">2024 presidential election.</a>
What Happened: Tuesday's presidential debate was watched <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/entertainment/24/09/40840076/trump-vs-harris-presidential-debate-viewership-tops-trump-biden-total-but-falls-short-of-re">by 67.1 million people </a>with Walt Disney Co (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/DIS#NYSE">DIS</a>) unit ABC News hosting and allowing simulcasting to other media networks.
Other media networks have been fighting to get future presidential debates between the two candidates but they may be out of luck.
Trump posted on social media Thursday that there will be <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/politics/24/09/40843816/trump-declines-harris-debate-challenge-there-will-be-no-third-debate">no third debate.</a>
Without another debate between the two presidential candidates, attention could shift to vice presidential running mates J.D. Vance and Tim Walz, who are the candidates for the Republican and Democratic parties, respectively.
The two will face off on Oct. 1 in a debate hosted by CBS News, a unit of Paramount Global (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/PARA#NASDAQ">PARA</a>)(NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/PARAA#NASDAQ">PARAA</a>). Norah O'Donnell and Margaret Brennan will serve as the moderators for the debate.
Vance and Walz agreed to the debate and date set for New York City after several back and forth conversations with media networks.
Vance has sought to have as many debates as possible and accused Walz and Harris from running from media interviews.
"I think we ought to do as many debates as we possibly can," Vance previously <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2024/08/15/politics/vance-walz-vice-presidential-debate/index.html">said</a>. &nbsp;
Walz's team agreed to one debate and with Trump and Harris potentially not doing another debate, the opportunity for Vance and Walz to take part in more debates could arise.

The debate is expected to follow a similar 90-minute format and have commercial breaks, which could benefit Paramount.
Polymarket <a href="https://polymarket.com/event/live-audience-at-walz-vance-debate">lists </a>a 24% chance of having a live audience at the vice presidential debate, something that would differ from the 2024 presidential debates.
Vance has not been popular with voters since being named the vice presidential candidate as <a href="https://thehill.com/newsletters/campaign-report/4877039-what-we-know-about-the-walz-vance-debate/">reported </a>by The Hill. Vance's net favorability is negative and doesn't show signs of improvement. More voters (46.8%) view Vance unfavorably than those who view him favorable (39.8%).
Walz on the other hand has a positive net favorability rating with 43.6% viewing him favorably and 40.9% viewing him unfavorable.
The 2020 vice presidential debate between Mike Pence and Kamala Harris was watched by more than 57 million people. Trump, Harris Might Not Debate Again But Their Running Mates Will: What Voters Should Know About Walz Vs. Vance Matchup

Voters should not expect another debate between Ex-President Donald Trump and current <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/kamala-harris">Vice President Kamala Harris</a>.
What Happened: Multiple media outlets — <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/24/09/40808499/trump-vs-harris-debates-results-are-in-flash-poll-shows-resounding-majority-pick-vice-president-as-w">CNN</a>, the Washington <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/politics/24/09/40824831/harris-vs-trump-swing-state-voters-pick-presidential-debate-winner-share-thoughts-on-immigration">Post</a>, the New York <a href="https://nypost.com/2024/09/11/us-news/kamala-harris-opens-up-narrow-lead-over-donald-trump-post-philadelphia-debate/">Post </a> — reported that most voters felt <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/24/09/40808499/trump-vs-harris-debates-results-are-in-flash-poll-shows-resounding-majority-pick-vice-president-as-w">Harris defeated Trump</a> in Tuesday night's matchup in Philadelphia.
Trump disagrees. "When a prizefighter loses a fight, the first words out of his mouth are, ‘I WANT A REMATCH.' Polls clearly show that I won the Debate against Comrade Kamala Harris," Trump wrote Thursday. "She immediately called for a Second Debate."
All the &#8220;problems caused by Kamala and Joe – it was discussed in great detail during the First Debate with Joe, and the Second Debate with Comrade Harris,&#8221; Trump added.
Trump also accused Harris of being &#8220;a no-show&#8221; at a Fox debate. Fact-checkers later clarified that Trump proposed Sept. 4 as a date for a debate with Harris, but the vice president never publicly agreed.
"Kamala should focus on what she should have done during the last almost four year period,&#8221; Trump added. &#8220;There will be no third debate!"

Here's a look at the betting odds and media companies that could benefit in the second week of the 2024 NFL season.
Week 2 Betting Odds: The Chiefs remain the<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/entertainment/24/09/40694176/nfl-week-1-betting-odds-national-tv-games-can-comcast-win-will-home-teams-have-the-spotligh"> betting favorite to win</a> Super Bowl LIX as the top NFL team for the season after an impressive opening week win over the Philadelphia Eagles.
Here are the week 2 matchups and the betting odds from sportsbook DraftKings Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/DKNG#NASDAQ">DKNG</a>) with the teams records in parentheses.

A quick look at the betting odds shows that sportsbooks are giving away teams more love this week, with six away teams favored. This compares to Week 1 where only two away teams were favored, and five away teams ended up winning.
The second week also features four matchups between teams that failed to win their opening games, with each team fighting to avoid an early 0-2 start to the season.
At DraftKings, these are the top five teams getting the most action against the spread, <a href="https://x.com/BFawkes22/status/1833845967872819268">according </a>to sports betting writer Ben Fawkes:

In week 1 several of the most bet on teams lost against the spread with top favorite the Bengals -8.5 losing outright. BetMGM's John Ewing <a href="https://x.com/johnewing/status/1833520555670311427">said </a>teams with 50% or more bets on them went 6-10 against the spread in week 1.
For Thursday night's opening game featuring the Bills and Dolphins, Ewing <a href="https://x.com/johnewing/status/1834256907374096601">said </a>Bills quarterback Josh Allen is 6-0 overall and 4-2 against the spread in Thursday games.

Media Stocks on Watch: NFL viewership was up 12% year-over-year in the first week of the season, as <a href="https://frontofficesports.com/nfl-week-1-sets-viewership-record-with-an-average-of-21-million/">reported </a>by FrontOfficeSports.
A rare Friday game between the Packers and Eagles was watched by 14 million people, with the game being exclusive on the Comcast Corporation (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CMCSA#NASDAQ">CMCSA</a>) Peacock streaming platform.
The Walt Disney Company (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/DIS#NYSE">DIS</a>) recorded 20.4 million viewers for the first Monday Night Football game, which was down 10% from last year's record-setting debut, but was the second most-watched Week 1 Monday Night Football game since 2006.

Of the six teams featured in the primetime games, five won their first week game, setting up some highly anticipated week 2 matchups. 
The Sunday 1 p.m. ET and 4 p.m. ET games will be broadcast by&nbsp;Paramount Global&nbsp;(NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/PARA#NASDAQ">PARA</a>)(NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/PARAA#NASDAQ">PARAA</a>) unit CBS and Fox Corporation (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/FOX#NASDAQ">FOX</a>)(NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/FOXA#NASDAQ">FOXA</a>) unit FOX.
Coverage will vary by location. In Week 1, CBS and Fox games averaged 18.4 million viewers per game—the highest opening-week Sunday afternoon figure since 2016 and a 21% increase over last year&#8217;s opening week.
