Delta Kicks Off Airline Earnings This Week

Airline stocks have rallied in the second half of 2016, driven by improved fundamentals, a post-election rally and Warren Buffett’s investment in the sector.

Airlines are expected to report strong fourth-quarter results on the back of higher demand for business and leisure travel in the fourth quarter. Further, an uptick in fuel prices is set to boost a key metric — revenue per available seat mile, which determines the revenue generated by one passenger flying one mile.

Here is the list of upcoming earnings of major airlines:

  • Delta Air Lines, Inc. DAL will kick off the airline earnings on Thursday. The Street expects EPS of $0.82 on revenue of $9.35 billion. The mean recommendation comes in at 1.8, and the average target price totals $59.07.
  • United Continental Holdings Inc UAL is expected to report its quarterly numbers between January 19 and 23. Street estimates earnings of $1.39 a share on revenue of $8.85 billion. The mean recommendation is 2.1 and average price target stands at $80.91.

    American Airlines Group Inc AAL is anticipated to release its fourth-quarter report between January 27 and 31. The consensus estimate calls for EPS of $0.78 on revenue of $9.57 billion. The mean recommendation stands at 2.5, with average price target at $53.33.

  • Southwest Airlines Co LUV is scheduled to report its fourth-quarter results on January 26. Street expects EPS of $0.66 on revenue of $4.98 billion. The mean recommendation is 1.9 and average price target stands at $57.23.
  • JetBlue Airways Corporation JBLU is expected to announce its quarterly performance on between January 26 and 30. The average earnings estimate stands at $0.48, with revenue forecast pegged at $1.63 billion. The mean recommendation is 2.3 and average price target stands at $25.67.
