Email Is Passe: Tesla, Apple And Others Are Now Hiring Talent Over DMs On X

Tim Cook-led Apple Inc. AAPL and Elon Musk's own company, Tesla Inc. TSLA are skipping emails and hiring talent via direct messages on X, formerly Twitter.

What Happened: Musk's attempts to turn X into the "everything app", including scouting talent and hiring them, seem to be bearing fruit finally.

While X itself has been hiring talent for a few months now via a new "job cards" feature, others like Apple, Tesla, and smaller companies are encouraging those looking for jobs to send their resumes via DMs on X.

Jesse Chand, a human interface designer at Apple working on Vision Pro, posted a job listing on X. The job is for a designer to work on visionOS and spatial computing.

Chand encouraged people to send him a DM and have a chat with him if they are interested in applying for the job.

Musk co-founded Tesla and is also scouting for talent on X – Dar Sleeper, a product manager at the company, posted a job listing for designers. He asked interested candidates to send him a DM, with a small caveat – users will need a verified account.

While a verified account costs money, it leads to relatively less spam since users will need to use a phone number to verify their accounts.

It's not just these two big tech companies that are hiring over DMs on X. Smaller players also regularly post job listings and encourage applicants to send them a DM.

GoPulse, a blockchain company, also posted a job listing looking for React and Next.js developers.

Ritesh Gupta, a senior iOS engineer at Atlassian Corp. TEAM, posted a job listing looking for an Android engineer. Like others, he encouraged applicants to send him a DM.

Why It Matters: Although X has undergone a wave of changes under Musk's ownership, it is increasingly becoming a platform for companies looking to hire new talent.

While traditional hiring methods like email and walk-in interviews will likely continue to exist, prospective employees now have one more avenue to look for jobs than just LinkedIn.
