Amazon's Leaked Email Reveals Newly Formed AGI Team Is Undergoing Restructuring

A leaked email revealed that Amazon Inc.’s AMZN AGI team, which was formed only four months ago, is undergoing a restructuring.

The AGI team, led by Amazon’s SVP and chief scientist Rohit Prasad, is reallocating some of the Alexa-focused projects to the Devices unit, reported Business Insider, citing the email.

The restructuring follows shortly after job cuts within the AGI team last week, with the Alexa unit bearing the brunt of the impact.

“I am very proud of what this organization has already delivered for Alexa and AGI,” Prasad said, adding that changes will “help us further sharpen our focus on this mission and deliver faster for our customers.”

In light of the restructuring, the AGI team has outlined six areas of focus, indicating Amazon’s strategy to compete with Microsoft and Google in the AI domain. The company aims to develop its foundational models, AGI conversational assistants, and related infrastructure services.

Teams that previously worked on Alexa-centric features have now been moved to the Devices team. The AGI unit, on the other hand, has formed six new teams: AGI Product, AGI Data Services, AGI Foundational Models, AGI Sensory and Machine Learning Builder Services, AGI Conversational Assistant Services, and AGI Information.
