Apple's $3,500 Vision Pro Headset Gets A New Recorder — iPhone 15 Pro With Latest iOS 17 Beta

Zinger Key Points
  • Apple is rolling out the spatial recording feature for iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max users.
  • The new feature will allow iPhone users to record content for the Vision Pro.

Apple Inc.'s AAPL $3,500 Vision Pro headset now has a new recorder – the new iPhone 15 Pro, thanks to the latest iOS 17.2 beta update.

What Happened: Apple is rolling out spatial video capture support for the iPhone 15 Pro, after announcing it in September. The feature was rolled out as part of the iOS 17.2 Beta 2 update, discovered by iSoftware Updates.

The new update allows for the recording of spatial videos at 1080p resolution and 30 frames per second. For best performance, Apple suggests maintaining the iPhone in landscape mode and ensuring stability while recording. A minute of spatial video equates to approximately 130 MB.

Enabling the “Spatial Video for Apple Vision Pro” toggle in the Settings application reveals a new “Spatial” option in the Camera application’s “Video” interface.

Spatial videos will be viewable through the AR/VR headset once Vision Pro is released in “early 2024”. Vision Pro will also support the capture of spatial videos. Apple states that this feature will permit users to record moments in 3D and experience them with remarkable depth on Apple Vision Pro.

At present, while spatial videos can be recorded using the iPhone 15 Pro, the “spatial” element cannot be viewed. The goal is for users to create a collection of spatial video content for viewing upon Vision Pro’s launch.

Why It Matters: The introduction of spatial video capture signifies a major step forward in Apple’s push towards enhancing its AR/VR capabilities.

The spatial video recording feature was initially announced for the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.

This allows users to begin creating a library of spatial video content ahead of the launch of Apple’s Vision Pro. This collection of videos will play a key role in fully utilizing the capabilities of the upcoming AR/VR headset, offering users a more immersive viewing experience.
