Unions Announce One-Day Strike At Stellantis' Italy Plant Amid Ongoing UAW Tussle

Stellantis NV STLA, the automaker already impacted by the United Auto Workers, or UAW, strike at one of its U.S. plants, now faces another labor stoppage at a factory in Italy on Monday.

What Happened: Unions have reportedly announced a one-day strike at Stellantis NV’s Melfi plant due to concerns over the production of new models, UILM, FIM-CISL, Fismic and Uglm said on Friday, reported Reuters.

The strike is scheduled for Sept.18, as the labor unions demand more information about the automaker’s future production plans at the plant.

The Franco-Italian automaker had previously announced plans to produce five new models at the Melfi plant, which employs over 5,000 workers. However, the company did not provide updates on the fifth model, leading to the call for the strike.

Marco Lomio, the local head of UILM, has called for a complete halt of the facility on the day of the strike. The unions’ action, however, is unrelated to the ongoing strike by UAW in the U.S. at factories owned by General Motors Co. GM, Ford Motor Co. F and Stellantis NV.

Stellantis has not yet commented on the planned strike.
