Trump Says He Will Put An End To Biden's Electric Vehicle Push If Reelected, Promises 'Choice In Cars'

In a bid to influence voters in the critical state of Michigan, former U.S. President Donald Trump has vowed to put an end to the current administration’s push for electric vehicles (EVs).

What Happened: On Monday, Trump posted a criticism of the EV industry and President Joe Biden’s drive for more electric vehicles on Truth Social. He warned that Michigan’s auto industry would cease to exist if Biden’s “all Electric Cars” concept is implemented, and that China would take over, reported The Hill.

“The Great State of Michigan will not have an auto industry anymore if Crooked Joe Biden's crazed concept of ‘all Electric Cars' goes into effect”, Trump asserted.

He said on Truth Social, “CHINA WILL TAKE IT ALL, 100%. United Auto Workers, VOTE FOR TRUMP. Get your leaders to ENDORSE ME, I WILL KEEP ALL OF THESE GREAT JOBS, AND BRING IN MANY MORE. CHOICE IN SCHOOLS, AND CHOICE IN CARS!!!"

Trump also criticized Shawn Fain, president of the United Auto Workers (UAW), for supporting the Biden administration’s latest EV investment.

He claimed that endorsing all EVs would result in the demise of the American auto industry and projected a shift of production to China.

His comments were posted as around 146,000 UAW members faced a strike deadline with three major U.S. automakers—General Motors Co. GM, Stellantis N.V. STLA, and Ford Motor Company F—whose contracts end on Sept. 14th.

Why It Matters: These comments from Trump are part of his ongoing efforts to win Michigan voters by criticizing the Biden administration’s push for EVs.

Earlier in June he stated, he stated that Biden’s focus on electric vehicles put the Michigan auto industry at risk. He argued that the shift to electric cars would decimate the auto industry and its suppliers.

In an August interview, Trump further slammed electric vehicles, stating that the Biden administration is “destroying” the U.S. with “electric cars and windmills.”

Trump has also pledged to terminate what he calls Biden’s “Green New Deal atrocities,” referring to his EV policies, on his first day if re-elected in 2024.
