Hey Siri, Unlock My Tesla! Latest iOS App Update Enables Seamless EV Commands

Tesla Inc TSLA drivers can now reportedly ask Siri to unlock their vehicle doors, cool their cars or even start charging.

What Happened: By updating to version 4.24.0 of Tesla’s iOS app, users can execute commands by asking Siri on either their Apple Inc AAPL iPhone or watch, Tesla North reported.

One can lock or unlock their vehicle, start or stop charging or even enable or disable sentry mode and dog mode, the report added.

This ease of doing certain actions was enabled via integration with Apple’s Shortcuts app which allows for the completion of tasks with apps through a voice command to Siri.

As per the report, drivers can now also precondition their vehicles or open the trunk, frunk, or charge port.

Why It Matters: Though third-party apps allowed users to use Siri to command their Tesla before, now it can be done without them, further automating both the Tesla and Apple experience. But Tesla is yet to have CarPlay on its cars.

However, there are rumors of AirPlay coming soon on Tesla cars and offering an alternative for streaming high-quality content to the vehicle's sound system.

If successfully implemented in Tesla vehicles, AirPlay would enable drivers and passengers to wirelessly stream music, podcasts, and more from their iPhones directly to the car's sound system without the need for Bluetooth pairing.
