What's Going On With AMD Stock Wednesday?

Advanced Micro Devices, Inc AMD stock is volatile in the trading session following a DigiTimes report indicating cloud service providers are looking at AMD's LLM chip as an alternative to Nvidia Corp NVDA.

Additionally, a Tuesday report indicated AMD as unlikely to transfer 3nm chip orders to Samsung Electronics Co, Ltd SSNLF, given that it has been working with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Ltd TSM on the technology for at least two years and that its relationship with TSMC extends to 2nm process fabrication.

On Tuesday, BofA analyst Vivek Arya reduced AMD's price target to $130 from $135, citing NVDA's full-stack AI platform will pressure AMD data center GPU market share upside (alongside side risks in CPU market cannibalization).

AMD CEO Dr. Lisa Su is currently visiting Taiwan, maintaining a low profile versus an earlier visit by her peer, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang.

Dr. Su is visiting Taiwan for a ceremony that will award her an honorary doctorate. Before she attends the ceremony, she will likely meet the TSMC CEO, Dr. C.C. Wei, and the chairman of the contract manufacturing firm Pegatron Corp PGTRF, WCCF Tech reports.

AMD stock has gained 86% YTD vs. Nvidia, which has gained 230%.

AMD stock was up by as much as 1.40% before giving up gains.

Price Actions: AMD shares traded lower by 1.75% at $115.87 on the last check Wednesday.
