Elon Musk Asks Mosaic Browser Creator, 'How Many Years ... Before AI Kills Us All?'

Elon Musk posted a chilling question to renowned venture capitalist and creator of the first widely used web browser Mosaic, delving into the imminent threat of artificial intelligence and its potential to annihilate humanity.

What Happened: Marc Andreessen has found himself at the center of a thought-provoking exchange with Musk, as the tech billionaire asked him an eerie question about the future of AI.

Musk, known for his cautionary stance on AI, seized the opportunity to raise a pressing question during an “Ask Me Anything” session initiated by Andreessen on Twitter

Prompted by Andreessen’s invitation to query users on AI or related topics, Musk boldly inquired, “How many years do we have before AI kills us all?”

As the virtual realm buzzed with anticipation, the stage was set for a collision of contrasting viewpoints on the potential existential threat posed by AI and its implications for humanity’s survival. However, at the time of writing, Andreessen didn’t respond to Musk’s query.

Although, an AI bot did.

Why It’s Important: Calls for strong AI regulation have gained significant attention in recent times, especially in light of generative AI advancements and potential issues such as misinformation, copyright violations and job displacement. However, Andreessen firmly opposed government intervention

He advocated unbridled AI growth and market competition as the key to harnessing the technology’s potential and saving the world.

While tech experts like Microsoft Corp’s founder Bill Gates compared OpenAI’s chatGPT with the invention of the internet, others like business magnate and investor Warren Buffett have expressed their doubts about AI systems like OpenAI’s chatGPT. Buffett compared chatGPT with the invention of the atom bomb, saying that the possibility of the technology scares him
