Creative 29-Year-Old Makes $22K A Month Working 'Less Than 2 Hours A Day'

A young artist used to work 80 hours a week for less than half of the income she generates now working just 10 hours doing what she loves.

What To Know: 29-year-old Domonique Brown was working two full-time marketing jobs less than three years ago before quitting one of them and launching an online art shop that brings in $22,000 a month, per CNBC.

"I always had a passion for making art, and I wanted time to pursue it. So in April 2020, I quit one of my jobs to start a side hustle," Brown said.

Her brand, DomoINK, features original artwork created using crayons and markers. She prints her designs on several different items and lists them for sale on her personal website, as well as in select retail stores like Home Goods and Target Corp TGT.

Brown's business really took off when she made a TikTok video showing her process of creation using crayons that went viral. Since then, she has collaborated with several big brands including Walt Disney Co DIS, Lowe's Companies Inc LOW and Bath & Body Works Inc BBWI.

She only dedicates about 10 hours each week, or "less than two hours a day," to the side hustle and about half of that time is spent on social media platforms looking for current trends, which she likes to incorporate into her work.

The time spent on social platforms also helps to keep costs down, and she uses her social reach in place of paid ads. That helps to increase profits, which can span anywhere from a few bucks to thousands of dollars.

"My prices range from $18 socks to a $5,000 painting," she said, adding that this particular painting sold within a few days of being listed on her website.

Brown aspires to turn her $22,000-a-month side hustle into a full-blown lifestyle retail business that represents the underrepresented. 

"The feedback I have gotten from people who feel seen by my work has been incredibly gratifying, and it inspires me to grow my business even more," she said.
