Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC), the world’s oldest cryptocurrency, fell below the $22,000 mark, recording sharp losses on Monday.
Ethereum (CRYPTO: ETH), the second-biggest cryptocurrency, meanwhile, managed to stay above the $15,000 level, but moved sharply lower over the past 24 hours.
Several other popular altcoins, including Qtum and Trust Wallet Token, recorded minor gains over the previous 24 hours.
At the time of writing, the global cryptocurrency market capitalization fell to $1.01 trillion, notching a 24-hour decline of around 3.2%. BTC was trading lower by around 3.4% to $21,973, while ETH fell around 4.5% to $1,539.69 on Monday.
Investors are now awaiting earnings results from Whirlpool Corporation (NYSE:WHR) and Packaging Corporation of America (NYSE:PKG), scheduled for release today.
