The House Rules Committee has once again declined Rep. Robert Garcia's (D-CA) efforts to eliminate marijuana testing for federal job applicants through substantial spending bills.

These proposed amendments, integrated into various appropriations bills during this session, did not receive approval for floor votes.

Specifically, Rep. Garcia submitted these proposed revisions as part of spending bills for the Departments of Energy and Water Development and Related Agencies, as well as for the legislative branch.

The amendments sought to impose restrictions on covered agencies, albeit with certain exceptions, preventing them from utilizing their funding for marijuana testing of job applicants.

Garcia has also introduced similar measures for additional appropriations bills tied to different agencies.

These measures are anticipated to be deliberated by the Rules Committee in the coming days.
