The 2024 presidential election could end up being a rematch of the 2020 election, which saw voters choose between Donald Trump and Joe Biden. Biden won and became the 46th president of the U.S.

Here’s a look at what a weekly poll says about a potential rematch and how Biden fares in a hypothetical match-up versus Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.

What Happened: A national poll of registered voters highlights two hypothetical matchups for the 2024 election between Biden, Trump and DeSantis. The three candidates have been considered the frontrunners in the 2024 presidential election race.

The weekly Morning Consult poll had Biden defeating both Trump and DeSantis in separate hypothetical matchups, proposed to registered voters.

Voters give Biden a 43% to 41% advantage against Trump in the latest hypothetical matchups for a third straight week. Eleven percent said they would vote for someone else and 5% said they were unsure who they would select.

In a matchup between Biden and DeSantis, Biden wins with a 43% to 37% advantage, matching the results from last week. Twelve percent said they would vote for someone else and 8% said they were unsure who they would vote for.

Biden has seen his lead over DeSantis grow, which comes as the Florida governor has seen his support among Republican voters drop in recent election polls.

A Morning Consult poll in June saw Trump take a brief 44% to 41% lead over Biden, which was his first lead since the poll began in December 2022.

Outside of the one poll that saw Trump pass Biden, the current president has maintained a lead of mostly one to two points over Trump.

Why It’s Important: The 2020 election saw Biden defeat Trump with a 306 to 232 margin in the Electoral College. Biden also won the popular vote with 51.3% support, compared to 46.9% for Trump.

Trump continues to dominate the GOP field in recent polls, with the latest Morning Consult poll showing a 44-point lead for the former president over the Republican competition. DeSantis has also seen his support level drop in recent weeks, nearing new lows at 14% in the most recent poll.

The latest polling comes as Trump has been charged in connection to his alleged attempts to reverse the 2020 Presidential election outcome. The former president has been indicted four times in 2023.

While Trump maintains a large lead over his Republican competition, the next polls could be different as they will come after the first Republican primary debate.

The first Republican primary debate will be shown on Fox News, a unit of Fox Corporation FOXFOXA and livestreamed on Rumble Inc RUM.

Trump recently announced he will be sitting out the first debate of Republican candidates, leaving voters to favor Vivek Ramaswamy and DeSantis as the potential winners from the debate.

A strong showing from Ramaswamy and/or DeSantis could see the two candidates close the gap versus Trump in the Republican voter poll and also impact the hypothetical matchups with Biden.
