The 2023 year has been one dominated by musician and superstar Taylor Swift, who has NFL fans either loving or hating the fact that she has attended games.
A record-breaking tour also saw Swift dominate headlines and several security guards go viral for multiple reasons. One of those security guards is once again in the headlines, but for a very different reason.
What Happened: Swift is currently on a break from her record-breaking The Eras Tour, which is her first tour in five years. The tour is projected to gross over $4 billion.
A new report from Variety says that one security guard who helped protect Swift during the tour has returned home to Israel to join the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) in the fight against Hamas.
The security guard, who wishes to remain anonymous, discussed his decision to leave the United States and return home to Israel with Israel Today and journalist Eran Swisa. The journalist shared the story on social media.
Swisa told Variety that the security guard was born in Israel but had been working in America. Variety could not confirm whether the security guard was employed by Swift or the tour stadium.
The security guard said the decision was easy to return home to Israel, despite having an “amazing dream job” and great friends in the United States.
“I could not stand on the sidelines while families are being slaughtered and burned alive in their homes!! Just for being Jewish or for being Israelis,” the guard told Swisa in a statement seen by Variety.
The guard shared a statement condemning Hamas and the horrific actions taken in the Middle East.
“I’m not only standing here with Israel and actually standing here. I’m standing here with humanity. Don’t be on the wrong side of history. Don’t stand on the sidelines and say nothing.”
The security guard went viral on social media earlier this summer as he was seen walking with Swift and carefully analyzing the crowd.

Why It’s Important: News of the security guard leaving for Israel comes as many celebrities have made statements about the Middle East conflict. Variety notes that Swift has not made a public statement about the Israel, Hamas war.
The Twitter account for Israel shared the post about the security guard.
"Hey Taylor Swift, we promise you'll never find another like him," the account said.
A report from the New York Post highlights that this security guard is not the only person protecting celebrities that have headed home to Israel to join the fight. The report names Oded Krashinsky, who has been a bodyguard for celebrities including Nicole Kidman.
“I came here to help my unit. The morale is tense. The main threat is invasion – we have to deflect it, fight it, and protect against it,” Krashinsky told the New York Post.
The New York Post also highlights that there has been a history dating back to the 1990s of former Israeli combat veterans becoming security guards for celebrities.
The anonymous security guard, who went viral earlier this year for scanning the crowd as Swift walked with him, is one of several to go viral during The Eras Tour.
