Is Now A Good Time To Invest In Brazil?

In Monday morning’s PreMarket Prep, Jamie Anderson, managing principle of Tierra Funds, discussed the Tierra XP Latin America Real Estate ETF LARE and whether or not investors should be buying Brazil.

Brazil is currently in the middle of its longest recession in 80 years, and its president resigned last week in the face of impeachment trials. Yet, despite the controversy, Anderson says Brazil is moving in the right direction.

“We’re seeing a lot of constructive news, particularly out of Brazil,” Anderson told Benzinga.

“We’ve seen this cycle time and again. What’s going on in Brazil is that we are basically going through a bottoming process in terms of the financial markets and the real economy, as well as, what we view to be quite constructive, an inflection point in the political process.”

Anderson went on to say that fiscal policy, a platform centerpiece for the new leadership in Brazil, is the biggest key to a return to prosperity.

“They need to reform their pension system, they need to reform the size of the government, and they need to become more business-friendly in terms of seeking foreign direct investment,” Aderson concluded, adding that last week’s events are an indication that the wheels of reform have already begun to turn in Brazil.

So far this year, the LARE ETF is up 24.3 percent.
