The Wedbush Entertainment Software team has been extremely active this Monday morning as they followed their NPD U.S. sales data note up with an E3 Preview.

In the note, Michael Pachter along with his team of Nick McKay and Alicia Reese highlighted four notable points they are watching at the event; most revolved around the ongoing Microsoft Corporation MSFT and Sony Corporation SNE console competition.

In particular, Pachter's team expects the following:

  • Both Xbox and PS4 will focus will be “all about the games” as each console will showcase many notable games as well as a few surprises.
  • Virtual reality battle between Microsoft’s Oculus Rift and Sony’s Project Morpheus.
  • Price cuts for current gen Xbox 360 and PS3, which Pachter believes is long expected.
  • Don’t expect price cuts for Xbox One or PS4, Pachter thinks focus will shift to product bundles of first or third party content.
  • While the Wedbush team expects next-gen consoles to be a main focus of this upcoming E3, they do touch upon many of the publishers in the preview.

For Activision Blizzard, Inc. ATVI, they wrote, all eyes will be on the next installment of the Call of Duty franchise, "Call of Duty: Black Ops III." Pachter believes that the franchise will benefit from a larger user base in Xbox One and PS4 by holiday season.

For Electronic Arts Inc. EA, attention will be shifted to their many sports titles with the wildcard being the lofty expectations of "Star Wars Battlefront," which hopes to ride the Star Wars hype train.

Pachter is expecting to learn more of the unannounced AAA title Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. TTWO is working on, which is rumored to be called "Advent."
