In a recent meeting in Beijing, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken voiced concerns over China&#8217;s support for Russia&#8217;s military, potentially straining the ongoing efforts to mend relations between the two countries.
What Happened: Blinken, during a five-and-a-half-hour discussion with China&#8217;s top diplomat Wang Yi, highlighted the issue of China&#8217;s backing of Russia&#8217;s military, among other contentious topics, reported Reuters.
&#8220;The Secretary discussed concerns about PRC support to the Russian defense industrial base,&#8221; said U.S. State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller, referring to the People&#8217;s Republic of China (PRC).
Despite its &#8220;no limits&#8221; partnership with Moscow, China has refrained from providing arms for Russia&#8217;s war in Ukraine. However, U.S. officials caution that Chinese companies are aiding the weapons industry, potentially jeopardizing the broader bilateral relationship.
Highlighting the escalating tensions, shortly before Blinken&#8217;s arrival in China on Wednesday, U.S. President Joe Biden signed a bipartisan bill. The bill allocated $8 billion to counter China&#8217;s military capabilities, substantial defense aid for Taiwan, and $61 billion for Ukraine. 
Wang emphasized that the U.S. must not infringe upon &#8220;red lines&#8221; concerning sovereignty, security, and developmental interests, hinting at Taiwan and the disputed South China Sea.
Blinken is anticipated to have a brief meeting with China&#8217;s President Xi Jinping. Before Friday&#8217;s discussions, U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen indicated that the Biden administration was keeping all options open in response to China&#8217;s surplus industrial capacity.

Why It Matters: The U.S. has been increasingly vocal about China&#8217;s role in Russia&#8217;s military activities. Earlier this month, Blinken <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/asia/24/04/38380008/us-mulls-sanctions-on-beijing-banks-for-alleged-role-in-putins-war-in-ukraine-china-cant-have-it-bot">suggested imposing sanctions on Chinese banks</a> for their alleged support of Russia&#8217;s war in Ukraine. This move was seen as a clear indication of the U.S.&#8217;s growing concerns over China&#8217;s involvement in the conflict.
Meanwhile, the European Union has also been critical of China&#8217;s support for Russia. The EU&#8217;s top diplomat in Asia, Niclas Kvarnstrom, recently <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/24/04/38373137/eus-top-diplomat-in-asia-warns-china-over-russia-ties-trade-imbalance-we-have-to-stand-up-for-oursel">warned Beijing</a> that its continued support for Russia is a major obstacle to improved relations between the EU and China.

Ford got a sales license for the Bronco in China in September and it will be available in China starting this year. However, the model has been dropping in popularity in Ford&#8217;s home ground in the U.S.
Bronco In U.S.: During the first quarter, Bronco sales in the U.S. dropped nearly 26% to 24,066 units. The Bronco Sport SUV, however, witnessed its sales rise 5.7% to 31,565 units. Together, Ford sold 55,631 units of the Bronco family, marking a year-on-year dip of nearly 10.7%. 
For the entirety of 2023, the company witnessed a 9.7% drop in Bronco sales while simultaneously experiencing a 28.1% jump in Bronco Sport sales. 
Ford first made the Bronco in 1966 and the nameplate has been thriving since. While the Bronco currently starts at $39,630 in the U.S., the Bronco sport starts at just $29,795. 
Beijing Auto Show: The Beijing International Automotive Exhibition, which commenced on Thursday,&nbsp;is set to run through early May. Reuters on Thursday reported that <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/24/04/38429779/warren-buffett-backed-byd-xiaomi-and-other-local-chinese-automakers-shine-at-beijings-largest-auto-s">EVs are predominant at the event</a>, reflecting the world&#8217;s largest auto market&#8217;s rapid shift towards EVs.

The U.S. Supreme Court, which deliberated former <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/24/04/38449386/supreme-court-justices-weigh-absolute-immunity-for-trump-lean-toward-some-protection-we-have-seen-th">Donald Trump&#8217;s immunity claims</a> on Thursday, ruled that former presidents enjoy some degree of immunity from criminal prosecution, and two legal experts weighed in on the proceedings in the apex court.
Chief Justice Holds The Key: Four Justices of the nine-member bench will likely reject claims about Trump&#8217;s absolute immunity and this shifts the spotlight to Chief Justice John Roberts Jr., <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sVaoJuvQE_w">said</a> Neel Katyal, an American appellate lawyer and professor of law, in an MSNBC interview.
The question is whether there would be a fifth vote and that would be the chief justice, he said, adding that the top justice was quieter during the hearing.
&#8220;But the chief justice does have [the] ability to surprise us,&#8221; Katyal said, adding that he was the fifth voter who upheld President Barack Obama&#8217;s Affordable Care Act right before the 2012 election.
&#8220;I hold out hope the chief will do the right thing here, uphold the rule of law and reject Trump&#8217;s claims of absolute immunity and let this trial go on so the American people can see it for themselves,&#8221; the legal expert said.

Shocking, Says Weissmann: Former DOJ Attorney and law professor Andrew Weissmann concurred with Katyal that it is going to come down to the chief justice.
&#8220;This is the chance to do something but this decision, just remember, no one was arguing that private acts are either civilly or criminally immune. Everyone agrees private acts you can always be prosecuted for so that&#8217;s a given,&#8221; he said.
So, it was not a win for Special Counsel Jack Smith, who is leading the prosecution side in Trump&#8217;s classified documents case, Weissmann said.
&#8220;I was just shocked that democracy as we know, is riding on finding that fifth vote. There should not be any justices who are in any way supporting this idea,&#8221; the DOJ veteran said. 
It could be like five, four, one way or the other on the case, Weissmann said. This tells you &#8220;how inured we are to the sort of Trumpism overtaking what this country is supposed to stand for,&#8221; he added.

What Happened: On Friday, Kiyosaki took to X, to express his view on the state of the U.S. economy. He stated that the economy was in a state of depression because it was experiencing subpar growth.
He wrote, &#8220;Q: Is the American economy in DEPRESSION? A: Yes Definition of a depression: an economy in subpar growth. In other words, the economy may be growing but below potential.&#8221;
Kiyosaki pointed out that the U.S. economy, which grew by 3.4% in the fourth quarter of 2023, only grew by 1.6% in the first quarter of 2024, less than half of the previous quarter&#8217;s growth.
He warned that this trend does not indicate a soft landing and urged people to seek the facts, prepare, and take care.

Why It Matters: Kiyosaki&#8217;s warning, although technically incorrect, comes at a time when the U.S. economy is facing various challenges. 
According to the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, a depression is an extreme form of recession lasting three or more years or resulting in a GDP decline of at least 10% in a given year. Throughout its history, the U.S. has faced 34 recessions, including notable ones like the Great Recession of 2008-2009 and the COVID-19 recession of 2020. However, it has experienced only one depression, famously known as the Great Depression, spanning from 1929 to 1941.
Early 2022 had two consecutive quarters of negative GDP growth. That's the&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/economics/23/11/35978120/why-havent-we-had-a-recession-yet-deep-knowledge-investing-research-on-the-economy" rel="noreferrer noopener">definition of a recession</a>.&nbsp;However, the&nbsp;National Bureau of Economic Research&nbsp;declined to declare that there was a recession due to other technical indicators.
The Federal Reserve&#8217;s signals to&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/24/04/38425604/feds-high-interest-rate-policy-spurs-debate-over-economic-impact-this-is-the-path-of-a-potential-pro" rel="noreferrer noopener">maintain&nbsp;high interest</a>&nbsp;rates have sparked concerns about its potential impact on the economy. Despite the ongoing economic stability, the Fed&#8217;s stance has raised questions about its potential impact on the economy.
